Here's a lovely little fine motor video for the younger Tree Toppers!

All you need is an old tissue box, some cellotape, birthday paper then turn it into a hungry caterpillar posting pictures of food!

Fine motor aactivities can help build up your child's hand strength, dexterity and muscles in the hands and fingers. It can also help self-care tasks, handwriting, colouring and using scissors not to mention hand-eye coordination, probem solving, spatial awareness and lots more! πŸ›

Interoception is the sense that lets us feel what is happening inside our body.

It will help us to know when we are hungry, if our heart is beating too fast or if we are in pain.

Many of us may not feel these body signs clearly. It may make us feel them strongly or not at all which will cause confusion.

If your interoception is not functioning as it should, think about how you would feel, what would happen or if our internal sensations were so overwhelming that we could not understand what our body was trying to tell us. Quite scary.

If you need any help in this area, we are here to help πŸ“ž

Soon our Tree Toppers will be gearing up for the return to school after the summer holiday.

Many parents/carers will see lots of these being displayed by your child as they will be in a constant emotional state, worrying about school.

With a little bit of preparation and support, you can make the transition to back to school less stressful for everyone.

πŸ‘ Ease back into the routine beforehand.
πŸ‘ Use visual schedules and/or social stories.
πŸ‘ Use sensory tools, strategies, heavy work activities.
πŸ‘ Communicate with school if required.
πŸ‘ Give emotional support.
πŸ‘ Enlist the help of an SI trained occupational therapist.
πŸ‘ Familiarise your child with school by walking or driving past.
πŸ‘ Talk about feelings.

If you have any questions, just give us a shout πŸ‘‹

This week's alphabet scavenger hunt was so much more than finding letters - we hid the matching letters around the room, and our Tree Topper had to climb under and over equipment, search the space and visually match each letter to the alphabet.

A brilliant way to build visual perceptual skills alongside balance, motor planning, coordination, body awareness and organisation - all while having fun and moving! πŸ₯°

Welcome to International Makaton Awareness Day 2026!

Each year on 28th August, we celebrate this special day. This years theme is "The Power of Together".
Makaton builds wonderful friendships for people of all abilities from sharing a smile and signing "Hello" to singing with others. It plays an important part of our daily lives.

The Tree Tops team will be learning Makaton over the next few weeks, and it's none other than our lovely Ellen who will be guiding us every step of the way! Watch out for our journey ❀
