These prove that social media is full of nutrition BS 😩

I recently spoke at the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute Educational Symposium about tackling nutrition misinformation.

I’ve been debunking misinformation on socials for over 10 years, so of course I knew there’s a LOT of nutribollocks online, but these stats still shocked me and reminded me of why it’s so important to keep debunking & sharing evidence-based messages.

Spread the word & follow for evidence-based information that also prioritises your relationship with food 🫶

It’s really worrying how popular they are 😫

I absolutely understand the appeal, but this content can lead you down a rabbit-hole of becoming increasingly fearful and obsessed with food.

These creators oversimplify complex science, misunderstand additives, moralise food choices, shame affordable options, and encourage obsessive label-reading that can spiral into disordered eating.

Swipe through to see why unfollowing these accounts might be one of the best things you do for your relationship with food 💛

Instead, follow people who help you move towards peace, flexibility and confidence around food.

Let me know what you think about these influencers ⬇️

Time to defend fruit juice again!

This has been coming up with a lot of my clients lately so I wanted to clarify that fruit juice:

⭐️ Provides fluid - which is essential for the human body

⭐️ Natural sugar which provides energy for the body

⭐️ A great source of vitamin C - when paired with plant based iron like fortified cereal this significantly increases iron absorption

⭐️ Provides other nutrients like folate and potassium

And many people (like me) find it tasty and refreshing too!

So if you enjoy fruit juice you you can absolutely include it in your diet. One small glass per day counts as one of your 5 a day and giving yourself permission for this may be a significant food freedom win as well 💪

Do we really need to avoid full-fat (AKA regular) dairy?

For years, it’s been swapped for low-fat alternatives in the name of health, but the evidence is more nuanced than that.

Emerging research suggests full-fat dairy may have neutral, or even beneficial, effects on cardiovascular and metabolic health.

Most dairy foods like milk and yoghurt aren’t actually classified as “high fat”, and their impact goes beyond fat content alone.

Full-fat options can also support satisfaction, flexibility, and a more balanced approach to eating, something often overlooked.
