Today I got the opportunity to travel across to Daventry to spend the day with a fab group of herdsmen (and women!) sharing my knowledge on how they can meet their nutritional needs whilst doing a physically intensive job with long seasonal hours and high stress. Ensuring young people in farming look after themselves is essential to sustaining their working life and it being a healthy one. Educating them about health checks and what tests results means....empowering young people to ask questions about their own health.
Sharing tasters of healthy low GI snacks to support slow sustained energy release and answering questions on hydration and meal prepping and supplements...I then got the chance to join them on their farm walk around the dairy herd and listen to their current challenges of the weather and it's impact on pasture growth and subsequently milk production. Typically herdsmen are like other farmers I've worked with through my Fit and Farming programmes...committed to making sure every need of the herd is met but neglecting their own health...health advice needs to be more accessible in rural communities. So if you know a group who would like info on nutrition, women's and mens health then drop me a line...
Thank you ladies and gentlemen who attended today your interaction was fab and it was a real pleasure to meet you all.
