On Monday myself and Oasis Warndon Community Hub lead Hannah were invited to The University of Worcester 80th Anniversary dinner, receiving Highly Commended for Impact on Health and Social Care.
Firstly, thank you to our fantastic lecturer, supporter and nominator for this recognition. Michelle was there the first day me and Hannah had this off the cuff idea and has been one of our biggest fans, thank you for everything!
Thank you to the Oasis Warndon team for all of their support throughout this, what started as a 'what if' has led to over 150 free to access physiotherapy appointments, onward referral, health promotion and prevention, education and most importantly... people getting better! Thank you to the community for not only embracing us, but making us feel part of the gang ❤️
The last 18 months have been a 'pinch me' moment the whole time, something I thought was a decade away has unfolded in front of our very eyes, accessible community healthcare.
Over this time, Health Valued has and is still growing our community work:
- Supporting weekly enrichment activities at Darkhouse Baptist Church, to encourage and facilitate community engagement with their own health education
- Providing over 150 exercises and rehab classes across the West Midlands with Gornal and Sedgley Team Ministry, Sanctuary Supported Living and recently joined Zoar Church
- Working with Dudley Stroke Association to increase community rehabilitation capacity for service users across Dudley
- Sponsoring Wednesfield Aces CSC to support local teams, community groups and wellbeing
- Partnering with Kidderminster Foodbank , Oasis Hub Blakenhale and Cavendish Park Care Home and Sanctuary Supported Living to provide more accessible access to healthcare services
- We have had over 50 physiotherapy, occupational therapy and dietetic placement students from University of Worcester, University of Wolverhampton and Birmingham Newman University supporting and enhancing the delivery of our mission: accessible healthcare for all
We have so many exciting things to come, thank you to all of our partners, friends, family, mentors and community for supporting us and sharing our vision, this is a true representation of how communities can develop, overcome barriers and thrive from within through resilience, innovation and collaboration.
