💚 This June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month and we're helping encourage New Zealanders to get to the bottom of it – know the symptoms of bowel cancer, start conversations that could save lives, and take action earlier. Statistics shows bowel cancer is curable in over 90% of cases when it’s found early. Now is a good reminder to check in with yourself and start those important conversations.

💬 If something feels off, don’t wait. A quick 2‑minute symptom checker can help you understand what to look out for and get you ready for your doctor’s appointment.

🩺 The National Bowel Screening Programme is also available for eligible men and women aged 58 to 74, offering free screening to help catch bowel cancer early.

🎯Did you know our bones naturally lose strength as we age? When bone density drops too much, it can lead to osteoporosis — a condition more common in women over 50 and men over 75.

❗️Some bone loss is expected with age, but factors like low vitamin D, being less active, hormone changes, and certain health conditions can increase the risk.

💙Treatment varies from person to person and is guided by bone‑density scans, age, medical history, and how advanced the condition is. One of the most helpful steps is looking after your bone health early and consistently, and speaking with your doctor if you have concerns.

🌡️As the weather cools and more seasonal bugs start circulating, it’s helpful to recognise the common symptoms of a cold, the flu, or COVID‑19. These illnesses all affect your airways, so it’s a good idea to rule out COVID‑19 first with a quick RAT test.

🎯A cold is usually mild and lasts 1–2 weeks, though a cough can hang around a little longer. The flu tends to come on suddenly and can feel more intense, with symptoms lasting 7–10 days.

💙If your symptoms stick around for more than two weeks, or if your flu symptoms become severe, it’s best to check in with your doctor for support.

âś…Flu season is here, and staying protected begins with getting your flu vaccination.

The flu vaccine is free for those most at risk. It is funded for everyone aged 65 and over, and also for people under 65 who are most at risk — including those with long‑term health conditions, reduced immune function, pregnancy, specific mental health or addiction needs, and children aged 4 and under who have been hospitalised for respiratory illness or have a history of significant respiratory illness.

If you’re eligible for a funded vaccine or would like a non‑funded option, our team is here to help.

đź“… Book your flu vaccine today by calling reception on (09) 585 0188.

🌍 World Health Day is a reminder for our wellbeing. This year’s theme, “Together for health. Stand with science,” encourages us to look at the everyday habits that protect our physical, mental, and emotional health, and to make changes that support a healthier future.

🌿 Whether it’s nourishing food, clean water, staying up to date with vaccines and medicines, managing chronic conditions, or caring for our mental health, each step strengthens not just our own wellbeing but the wellbeing of our communities.

✨ Science gives us the tools to understand our health better, and taking action, even in small ways, helps us stay well for the long term.
