🌿 FEAST OF SAN LORENZO RUIZ
September 28 | First Filipino Saint and Martyr
Today, we remember San Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino saint—a simple layman, husband, and father whose life became a powerful witness of faith, courage, and trust in God.
Lorenzo lived his faith not in comfort, but in the midst of persecution and suffering. In 1637, he gave his life rather than deny his faith in Christ. His story reminds us that holiness is not reserved for extraordinary people. It can be lived by ordinary people who remain faithful to God in the circumstances entrusted to them.
For us in healthcare ministry, the life of San Lorenzo Ruiz carries a meaningful reminder.
Every day, we encounter people who are afraid, in pain, uncertain, or simply longing for someone who will listen. Our work is more than providing treatment and completing our duties. **It is an opportunity to become instruments of Christ's healing presence.**
Like San Lorenzo, may we be:
❤️ FAITHFUL — serving with integrity, even when the work is difficult.
🤲 COMPASSIONATE — seeing the person behind every patient, and treating each one with dignity and kindness.
💚 COURAGEOUS — bringing hope and healing, especially to those who are suffering and vulnerable.
May his example remind all of us that **our profession can become a vocation, our service can become a witness, and our care can become an expression of God's love.**
As we continue our mission of “Evangelizing through Health Care Services,” may we carry with us the courage and faith of our first Filipino saint.
