We provide personalized solutions that empower children, helping families overcome challenges. We are a team of speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, educational therapists, and educational psychologist who are dedicated in helping young children and adolescents with various learning deficiencies. These may be related to speech and language, sensory-related, cognitive deficiencies that disrupt a child’s developmental process. Our referrals come direct from schools, educational and clinical psychologists and parents who understand what we do. We work with other professionals including psychologists, ENTs, neurologists and teaching professionals to bring a cohesive intervention plan to the individual student.

Your child is happily playing, you say it's time to go, and suddenly you're in the middle of a meltdown. It's easy to read that as defiance, but for a lot of children, it's simply that their brain needs a bit more time to shift gears. Yours has already moved on to the next thing. Theirs hasn't caught up yet.

A small heads up before the change, something like "two more minutes, then we're going home," can make all the difference. It gives your child a moment to prepare instead of being caught off guard, and that's often what turns a hard goodbye into an easy one.

If pickup time feels like this at your house more often than not, you're not doing anything wrong, and you don't have to figure it out alone. Total Communication is here to help.

Your child understands what you’re saying but when you ask a question, they go quiet.

It can be confusing when you know they understand, yet the answer doesn’t come.

The reason may involve more than vocabulary. Processing, memory, attention, sentence formulation and expressive language can all play a role.

A few words can sometimes hide a bigger picture.

If your child uses the same few words for months without adding new ones, it may be worth looking beyond word count. Understanding, gestures, interaction, play and communication progress all matter.

Sometimes, you notice the small things first.

A word that isn't coming. Sentences that stay short. Frustration when your child tries to communicate. A feeling that something is different, even when others say, "You're overthinking it."

Parents often notice patterns because they see their child every day.

Our latest blog explores the signs worth paying attention to, when to seek a professional opinion, and why getting clarity doesn't always mean something is wrong.

Helping Children Manage Transitions

Moving from one activity to another can be challenging for some children, especially when they are deeply focused or unsure of what comes next.
