BRAK’s Mission Rolls Forward in a Special New Way
For 12 years, Algona Rotary’s B.R.A.K. – Bike Ride About Kids has been pedaling with a purpose: raising funds to provide bikes to children in our community.
Thanks to the incredible support of our sponsors, riders, and community, BRAK has helped provide more than 150 bikes to local children over the years - giving them more than just a bike, but also the freedom, fun, and confidence that comes with having one of their own.
This year, BRAK was able to take that mission one step further. For the first time in the event’s history, a portion of the funds raised during the 2026 BRAK ride in June was used to purchase an adaptive bike for a local youth with special needs.
The BRAK Committee partnered with Evolve Physical Therapy to make the opportunity possible. With help from local school connections and the Kossuth Regional Health Center Occupational Therapy Department, names were submitted of children who could benefit from an adaptive bike.
From those names, Alyssa Moody was selected to receive the bike! Alyssa is a middle school student at Algona Middle School and the daughter of Jimmy and Dawn Moody.
On August 10, Alyssa was presented with her new adaptive bike by Audrey Finer of Evolve Physical Therapy, along with BRAK Committee members Justin Davis, Amy Whitacre, and Justin Oman.
Seeing Alyssa receive her bike was a special reminder of exactly what BRAK is all about—giving kids the opportunity to experience the joy, independence, and freedom of riding a bike.
