🐾 Meet the Everhart Community: Amy 🐾

If you've been part of the Everhart community over the past 28 years, chances are you've met Amy.

Amy's journey at Everhart began at the front desk as a Client Service Representative. Through hard work, determination, and a true passion for veterinary medicine, she continued to grow, earning her credentials as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), becoming a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM), and now serving as the Hospital Administrator for all three Everhart Veterinary Hospital locations.

While her responsibilities have grown over the years, one thing has never changed: her heart.

Amy has an incredible love for animals, and it shows in everything she does. Whether she's comforting a nervous patient with a gentle voice, quietly singing to them during an exam, or celebrating a successful recovery, caring for animals isn't just what she does, it's who she is.

But Amy's impact doesn't stop with our patients.

She is a mentor, a leader, and one of our biggest cheerleaders. She inspires our team to keep learning, pursue their goals, and become the best version of themselves. She's always encouraging growth, celebrating accomplishments, and reminding us to have fun along the way. Her positivity and enthusiasm help make Everhart not just a great place to bring your pets, but a great place to work.

Amy's story is also a reflection of something we believe deeply at Everhart: investing in people, building careers, and creating lasting relationships. We're incredibly grateful that she's spent the last 28 years helping shape the culture and heart of Everhart Veterinary Hospital.

🚨 There are a few words in veterinary medicine that make all of us move a little faster. GDV is one of them.

If you've ever heard someone say their dog "bloat-ed," this is what they're talking about.

Navi is an almost 9 year old Doberman Pinscher whose owners noticed, she just wasn't acting like herself.

She paced all night. She couldn't get comfortable. She kept trying to throw up, but nothing came up except a little foam. She wasn't interested in breakfast, drank a lot of water, and her family knew something wasn't right.

They trusted their gut and brought her in.

That decision very likely saved her life.

X-rays confirmed what every veterinarian hopes not to see: GDV (Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus)—a twisted stomach. This is one of the true emergencies in veterinary medicine. Once the stomach twists, it cuts off its own blood supply and can quickly affect other organs, sending a dog into shock. Minutes matter.

Navi went straight to surgery. Because her family acted quickly, our team was able to perform emergency surgery before transferring her to the emergency hospital for around-the-clock monitoring and recovery. Today, she's back home where she belongs. ❤️

As veterinary professionals... this diagnosis makes us nervous every single time.

And honestly? As dog owners, it does too.

That's why we want everyone to know the signs.

🚩 Trying to vomit but nothing comes up
🚩 Restlessness or pacing
🚩 A swollen or tight belly
🚩 Excessive drooling
🚩 Panting or obvious discomfort
🚩 Refusing food
🚩 Weakness or collapse

One of the hardest parts about GDV is that it doesn't always start with dramatic symptoms. Sometimes it starts with a dog that just seems... off. That's exactly why we tell clients to trust their instincts.

Dogs like Great Danes, Dobermans, German Shepherds, Standard Poodles, Weimaraners, and other deep-chested breeds are at higher risk, but GDV isn't exclusive to them.

The good news? Preventive gastropexy surgery has become much more common over the years, and it's one of the reasons we don't see nearly as many GDV cases as we used to. It won't stop a stomach from filling with gas, but it can prevent that devastating twist that turns bloat into a life-threatening emergency.

❤️ We're so thankful Navi's family listened to that little voice telling them something wasn't right.

If your dog ever seems uncomfortable, is trying to vomit without bringing anything up, or you're worried something just feels "off," don't wait to see if it gets better.

We would much rather examine a dog that turns out to be okay than have you lose precious time.
