¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana! 🎉💙

This Hispanic Heritage Month, Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital proudly celebrates the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of our Hispanic and Latino team members, patients, and families.

At MWPH, the diversity of our team makes us stronger and the cultural connections our staff bring to their work make our care more compassionate, more personal, and more meaningful for every family we serve.

This month and every month, we honor the heritage, resilience, and joy of our Hispanic and Latino community.

What does a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) do at MWPH? 💬

During National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, we’re shining a spotlight on our Speech-Language Pathology team and the many ways they support patients across the hospital—from infants to young adults, in both inpatient and outpatient care.

Our SLPs help patients build skills to communicate, connect, eat, drink, and participate more fully in everyday life.
Their work includes:
🗣️ Communication – supporting speech, language, voice, and communication skills
🧠 Cognition – strengthening attention, memory, problem-solving, and executive functioning
🤝 Social Communication – building skills for social interaction and meaningful connections
🍽️ Feeding & Swallowing – supporting safe and successful eating and drinking
🍼 Lactation & Breastfeeding – helping infants and families with feeding needs
Our SLPs also work closely with families and the broader care team to provide individualized, patient-centered care.
From first words to recovering communication after an illness or injury, our SLPs make a difference at every stage of life. ❤️
We’re proud of the many ways our Speech-Language Pathology team helps patients find their voice, strengthen their skills, and participate more fully in the world around them.

It's National Rehab Week! Today we're shining a spotlight on our Occupational Therapy team.

From the tiniest beginnings to big milestones, our OTs help kids participate in what matters most!

Meyerhoff Inpatient Rehab: Building skills and independence in self-care and functional mobility one step at a time after illness or injury.
Pakula Infant Specialty Care: Supporting the littlest patients and their families through important first development, sensory, and feeding moments.
Outpatient: Helping kids take the functional dressing, self-regulation, and fine motor skills they’ve learned and bring them into everyday life—at home, at school, and at play.
Feeding Day: Turning mealtimes into opportunities for growth, connection, and confidence as children use utensils, expand their favorite foods, and learn to chew.
Rehab Day: Using the benefit of intensive therapy to provide more opportunities to make progress toward meaningful goals, celebrating every “I did it!” moment along the way!

Whether we’re helping a child reach, grasp, move, eat, play, learn, or connect, OT helps kids do more of what makes childhood meaningful.

Our kiddos enjoyed a special Ravens Breakfast Club, some yoga, and plenty of fun with our facility dog, Bata! Our staff also showed their purple pride in support of the Ravens. 💜🏈

💛 Building bonds through Goslings!
Since 2019, MWPH’s Mother Goose on the Loose Goslings program has been helping families build meaningful connections with their little ones through singing, reading and play.

Designed especially for caregivers of infants, Goslings provides simple, engaging activities that support bonding, early literacy and development — while giving families tools they can continue using at home. 📚🎶

We’re proud to continue offering this special program to families at MWPH each month!
