A Message from Pennie, Director of Outpatient Services

This week is all about celebrating the people who make rehabilitation so much more than a job.

I am incredibly thankful for this team—an amazing group of individuals who are passionate, dedicated, hardworking, adaptable, compassionate, and always ready to have a little fun along the way!

Rehab can be challenging. Some days are exhausting, some days require us to think outside the box, and some days don’t go anything like we planned. But this team continues to show up, support one another, and most importantly, show up for our patients.

What makes me most proud is the heart behind what this team does. They celebrate the small victories. They encourage patients when they feel discouraged. They find new ways to help someone reach a goal. They laugh together, problem-solve together, and somehow make even the hard days better.

Every person on this team plays an important part in what we do at Sage, and I hope this team knows how much they are appreciated.

Thank you, this team, for the hard work, dedication, flexibility, compassion, and heart that goes into what happens here every day. I am so proud of this team and so grateful to be on this journey with all of them.

🌟 NEW EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Please help us welcome our newest member of the Sage Outpatient speech therapy team, Ashlynn Brewer, MS, CFY-SLP! 🗣️ Ashlynn completed both her undergraduate and graduate studies at Southeastern Louisiana University. 🎓 She has a special interest in working with stroke patients, particularly those experiencing aphasia and dysarthria. What Ashlynn loves most about speech therapy is seeing patients regain their ability to communicate, participate more independently in their lives, and reconnect with the people and activities they love.

Ashlynn says one of her favorite things about Sage Outpatient is the positive work environment and the opportunity to build meaningful connections with each of her patients. When she’s not at Sage Outpatient, you can find Ashlynn cooking up something delicious 🍳, spending time with family, or getting lost in a good book 📚.

💵📋 Functional Friday in Speech Therapy!

Today, our patients worked on a functional bill paying activity to target important cognitive-communication skills needed for everyday life. From reading and understanding bills to identifying amounts, determining due dates, calculating money, and problem-solving through possible errors, this task put speech therapy skills into practice in a meaningful way!

🧠 These types of functional activities can address multiple skills such as:
✔️ Reasoning
✔️ Attention to detail
✔️ Comprehension
✔️ Money management
✔️ Following directions
✔️ Organization & sequencing

Practicing everyday tasks in therapy helps build the skills needed to manage responsibilities and navigate daily life more successfully.

🎂✨ Throwback to when Ms. Carliss Lands celebrated her 75th birthday with us! 🎉💗

Ms. Carliss had a little birthday fun in occupational therapy while creating a mock birthday cake! 🧁This activity gave her the opportunity to work on fine motor coordination and gross motor coordination while celebrating a very special milestone! 🥳
