It’s Functional Friday!!

Bed mobility is an essential skill that plays a major role in maintaining independence at home. During physical therapy, our patients practice rolling in bed, scooting, sitting up safely, and transferring from the bed to a wheelchair. Repetitive, task-specific practice helps improve strength, coordination, balance, and confidence while promoting carryover into everyday routines.

By mastering these functional movements in therapy, patients are better prepared to move safely and independently in their home environment, reducing the risk of falls and increasing their overall quality of life.

In occupational therapy, repetitive, purposeful practice helps drive recovery. Through activities that challenge fine motor skills, visual perception, and visual-motor integration, patients strengthen the connection between what they see and how they move.

Mass practice encourages neuroplasticity, the brain’s remarkable ability to form new neural connections, helping improve coordination, precision, and hand function with everyday tasks.

At Sage Outpatient, we are committed to providing meaningful, evidence-based therapy that empowers our patients to regain function and independence.

Connection can be one of the most powerful tools in living well with Parkinson's. 💙

We were inspired by the outstanding presentation from Bryce Perry, founder of Doing Life Today, at the Parkinson's Conference this past weekend. His message was a powerful reminder that no one should face Parkinson's alone.

Through the Doing Life Today podcast, listeners can find real conversations, shared experiences, practical tools, and a supportive community of people who truly understand the journey. Whether you're living with Parkinson's, caring for someone who is, or simply looking for encouragement, this podcast is a meaningful resource.

At Sage Outpatient Services, we believe that rehabilitation extends beyond the clinic. Education, community, and peer support are all important pieces of living well with Parkinson's.

🎧 If you're looking for another way to stay connected and encouraged, consider giving Doing Life Today a listen. Sometimes hearing someone else's story can remind you that you're not alone.

We had a great time attending the 14th Annual Louisiana Parkinson’s Conference hosted by LSU Kinesiology 🧠💜💚

One of the highlights of the day was seeing our own Stephanie Fletcher and Pennie Trammell lead an energetic, interactive exercise break for the Parkinson's Warriors in attendance. It was an honor to help participants get moving, share a few smiles, and contribute to a day filled with education, encouragement, and inspiration 💜💚

July is Disability Pride Month!

Since 1990, Disability Pride Month has been celebrated in July to mark the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)! It is a month to celebrate disabled persons and the embracing of their disabilities as a part of who they are.

"It is a time for the disability community to come together, uplift, and amplify one another's voices and be heard. Disability pride has been described as "accepting and honoring each person's uniqueness and seeing it as a natural and beautiful part of human diversity."
