You may recognize Pam welcoming patients and families in the lobby on Wednesdays — but before becoming a volunteer, she spent years helping Roswell Park patients behind the scenes.

As Vice President of Payor Relations, Pam worked tirelessly to negotiate insurance coverage and expand access to lifesaving care, including helping bring the Gamma Knife procedure to Roswell Park.

Years later, Pam became a patient herself after an MRI revealed a brain tumor called a meningioma. Neurosurgeon Dr. Andrew Fabiano successfully removed the tumor, relieving her symptoms and allowing her to continue doing what she loves: giving back.

“It’s very fulfilling to be able to help someone who really dedicated themselves to making Roswell a better place,” says Dr. Fabiano.

Today, Pam continues to volunteer at Roswell Park and we are so lucky to have her 💙

Last week, our Veterans ENRG proudly hosted a Memorial Day ceremony in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. 🇺🇸

Many in our Roswell Park community — including both patients and employees — have personal connections to military service through family members, friends, or their own service. Today, we stand with them in remembrance and gratitude.

What does it really mean to meet a community where they are?

In the latest episode of Smarter Than Cancer, we sit down with Dr. Rodney Haring and community outreach coordinator Will Maybee to explore the realities of cancer care outreach in Indigenous communities around Buffalo.

From historical trauma and mistrust in the medical system to barriers in access and cultural understanding, this conversation dives into the deep-rooted health disparities affecting Native populations — and why a one-size-fits-all approach to care simply doesn’t work.

Huge shoutout to Team Roswell! 💙💪🫁

Led by captain Erika VanDette, our Roswell Park crew showed up strong at this year’s American Lung Association Fight For Air Climb!

They crushed it — bringing home three major awards:

🏆 Fastest Corporate Team
🏆 Largest Corporate Team
🏆 Top 3 Corporate Fundraiser— raising an incredible $7,483, supporting people with lung disease!

Thank you from the bottom of our lungs to every donor, climber, supporter and volunteer who helped make this possible.

This , we’re honored to share Mercedes’ story.

After being diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, Mercedes hoped for the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial. “When I heard clinical trial, I got very excited,” she says. “I felt like this could be something that not only helps me, but helps so many others.”

Mercedes speaks about trusting the science, trusting the doctors who deliver that science and how fortunate our community is to have Roswell Park close to home. For Mercedes, her family is her reason to keep going — and access to a clinical trial feels like carrying a “secret weapon.”

Today, we celebrate the patients, researchers, physicians and families who make clinical trials possible and help move cancer care forward for everyone.💙

Teams of Roswell Park volunteers participated in 5/14 Day of Service and Remembrance activities on Thursday, arranging flowers for the residents at HighPointe healthcare facility, cleaning up the Kate Massey Pock Park, and making donations to local food pantries and community refrigerators. It’s our responsibility, as members of the City of Good Neighbors, to be a force for good in our community and to remember those lost on that terrible day.

Help us congratulate our CCA of the Month for May, Nancy!

One of Nancy’s coworkers said, "Nancy is a true definition of a GREAT Senior CCA! She is full of knowledge with over 30 years of experience here at Roswell Park. Her wealth of knowledge is unbelievable, unmeasurable and undeniable. There has never been a time that she has not known the answer to a question. Every time I've asked her for assistance, she is willing to help."
