Handling contact is only part of the battle, players need to also make plays before the defense can react properly.
1. Keeping your eyes up lets you recognize what kind of defender is rotating over to help and anticipate how they’re going to try to defend you.
2. Great guards don’t wait until they’re cut off to make a decision. They’re already prepared to counter with the right move, pass, or shot option.
3. Taking a strong dribble while keeping your head up gives you more time to read, react and make the right decision instead of driving blindly.
The best guards aren’t just deceptive. They see the play develop while defenders are reacting to it.
