Taking a childbirth class with a qualified birth professional means the opportunity to ask questions, learn what may or may not be relevant to your circumstances, and know you're getting evidence-based information.

We have something really special to share with you! 🫶🏻

Many of you know us (Danielle and Shauna) through Mother Rising, but you might not know that we’re also 2 of the co-founders of The Community Baby Shower. And the story behind it is a pretty personal one. We were both teen moms who were able to thrive because the community stepped up to help us.

We know firsthand how much it matters when a community shows up for a family. We know what it feels like to need support, and what a difference it makes when people step in to help. That experience planted the seed for The Community Baby Shower, and what started as a dream and essentially a baby items swap in a little yoga studio has grown into something much bigger than we ever imagined. We are even a 501(c)(3) NON PROFIT NOW!

Our team of board members may have familiar names and faces too because some really amazing women in the area have stepped up to join us! Our board also consists of Pamela Hetrick, Kayla Phan, Zerina Hutchinson, Kari Craig, and Jessica Geer.

Since 2021, we’ve helped more than 1,300 families across Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties access essentials like car seats, cribs, diapers, wipes, clothing, hygiene items, education, and community resources. Just as importantly, we want every family to know they aren't doing this alone.

In many ways, this work comes from the same place as Mother Rising: we believe families deserve support, connection, and a community that shows up.

So, on January 29, 2027, we're bringing people together for something a little different: our very first The Community Cares Bash at LaMalfa!

We're talking food, an open bar, music, raffles, and a whole lot of fun, all while raising funds to help us reach even more families.

We'll be honest: we're figuring out the whole fundraising banquet thing as we go. But bringing people together? That's something we know how to do.

We would love to see our Mother Rising people there. Whether you've been part of this community for years or are newer around here, we'd love for you to join us, bring some friends, and help us celebrate what happens when a community takes care of its own.

Grab your tickets, come have a good time, and help us make sure more families have what they need to get started.

Choose wisely!

Do you see the inflated birth pool filled with warm water? Do you see that this birth pool is in a hospital room? Mom brought her own tub along, her own pump, and her own hose…and why not? Her hospital said “go for it” while a hospital twenty miles down the road would say “whoever gets our one tub room” or “you can only use the shower”…As doulas, we see so many inconsistencies. Choose your provider wisely AND choose your hospital wisely.

We can keep saying the system needs to change.

It does.

But we’re also living in a time when women have unprecedented access to information, practitioners, education, traditional practices and resources for postpartum care.

And I think that changes the conversation.

At some point, we have to stop treating care for the mother as something we hope someone else remembers to provide.

We have to start valuing it enough to plan for it.

To ask for it.

To spend money on it.

To put it on the registry.

To make it part of the birth conversation.

To expect our families and partners to understand that recovering from birth deserves preparation too.

I want better healthcare systems. Better maternal policies. Better community support. More knowledgeable practitioners.

But I also want women to recognize the power we have right now to change what postpartum looks like in our own homes.

Because culture doesn’t only change when institutions change.

Culture changes when women decide that the care of the mother is no longer optional. 🤍
