My Roman Empire is the idea that caregivers deserve rest too.

Not after everything is done. Not when things slow down. Not as a reward for surviving another impossible week.

Just because they are human beings who need it.

I think about this constantly. Because I see what happens when caregivers don’t rest. And I see what becomes possible when they finally do.

You are allowed to read a book on a beach. You are allowed to do absolutely nothing for an afternoon. You are allowed to exist outside of your caregiving role without guilt chasing you the whole time.

That is not selfish. That is necessary.

Rest is not a reward you have to earn. You already earned it. 💙

Five ways to reduce caregiver physical strain starting today. Let’s go.

One. Raise your care surface. You want it as close to belly button height as possible, sometimes even higher. If you are bending over to do care tasks your back is paying for it every single time.

Two. Create a supplies station. Everything you need within arm’s reach. Briefs, creams, chux, meds, wipes. Stop walking back and forth a dozen times every care task. Set it up once and save yourself hundreds of steps a week.

Three. Clear your paths. No tripping hazards. No squeezing past furniture while carrying or guiding your child. A clear, wide path between the places you do care is not a luxury. It is a safety requirement.

Four. Ask for a safe transfer demo. Please. Us PTs genuinely love this. There is a right way to move bodies and most caregivers were never taught it. One session can change everything for your body long term.

Five. Check your own posture during care tasks. And I mean actually check it. Do you even know what good posture looks like for you during a transfer or a lift?

Drop a comment below and tell me what you think good posture means. I want to know what you’ve got.

And if you are confused, overwhelmed, or your body is already hurting — that is what I am here for. Free discovery call. Link in bio. 💙

I get a version of this call pretty regularly.

A mom reaches out and the first thing she says is “I don’t even know if I qualify for this” or “I’m probably not your ideal client” or “things aren’t bad enough yet.”

And every single time I want to say: you called. That is the qualification.

The fact that you picked up the phone means something in your life told you that you needed support. That instinct is not wrong. That instinct is exactly right.
I have never once gotten off a discovery call and thought that person did not need help. Not once.

You do not need to have hit rock bottom. You do not need the perfect situation or the right words or enough of a reason. You just need to show up.

Come exactly as you are. That is enough. 💙

before your child’s next PT evaluation — do these three things.

one. write down your top three concerns in plain language. not medical language. not what you think the PT wants to hear. the actual things that are hard for your child and your family every single day.

two. film a video at home. what your child does in a clinical setting and what they do at home are often completely different. a video of a hard moment, a transition, a movement pattern you are worried about — that is gold for a PT evaluation.

three. know what you want to walk away with. a referral? a home program? specific answers about what you are seeing? go in knowing what a successful appointment looks like for you.

you are your child’s best advocate in that room. come prepared.

and if you are not sure whether your child even needs a PT evaluation in the first place — I have a free guide for that. link in bio. 💙

plot twist: none of this was in my PT school curriculum.

and yet here we are.

this is what caregiver coaching actually looks like in real life. the stuff that falls between every appointment, every therapist, every provider on your child's team. the invisible work that is making everything harder and nobody is addressing.

that's the gap I fill.

if your life has a few of these on the list today — you are exactly who I built Foundation First for.

she said she didn’t know support like this existed for caregivers.

she thought the help was only for her child.

she had been doing this for years.

years.

if that hit you somewhere — you are not alone. and you are exactly who I built this for.

most caregivers I work with are not failing because they aren’t doing enough.

they are failing because they are doing too much of the wrong stuff and nobody has helped them figure out what actually matters.

that’s Plan C.

not more. better. a real plan built around your real life.
