For 30 years, The Free Medical Clinic in Columbia has provided quality health care at no cost to Midlands residents who do not have the financial resources or health insurance. Through the efforts of dedicated volunteers and staff, The Free Medical Clinic provides and coordinates health care services to patients between the ages of 18 and 64 for a variety of medical conditions and chronic diseases

. The Free Medical Clinic is able to offer services and medication at no cost thanks to support form Lexington Medical Center, Palmetto Health, Providence Hospitals, United Way of the Midlands, corporations such as BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, organizations including the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, faith-based groups and community member contributions.

Meet Our Core Care Team! 💙

These are the providers patients are most likely to see during a visit to The Free Medical Clinic. Together, they provide the consistent, day-to-day primary care that helps uninsured adults manage chronic conditions, stay healthy, and avoid unnecessary emergency room visits.

While many volunteer providers and specialists generously support our mission throughout the year, these providers form the foundation of our regular primary care services and help ensure patients have access to a trusted medical home.

We’re grateful for opportunities to connect with our community beyond the walls of the Clinic. Recently, our team participated in the Women’s Health & Interest Fair hosted by Lutheran Services Carolinas New Americans Program, where we provided free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings and shared information about our services.

Events like these help us reach uninsured adults who may not know where to turn for care and allow us to build meaningful connections with our neighbors across the Midlands.

🎓 Congratulations to our recent graduates!

Each year, The Free Medical Clinic helps provide hands-on learning opportunities for more than 100 undergraduate students who are passionate about serving others and pursuing careers in healthcare. From assisting patients and supporting providers to observing primary and specialty care, these students play an important role in our mission while gaining invaluable experience.

We are proud of all they have accomplished and grateful for the compassion, dedication, and service they have shown to our patients and community.

Only a few hours left and we are so grateful.

Because of you, we’ve already met and exceeded our Midlands Gives goal.

Thank you to The Cheerful Giver Fund of Central Carolina Community Foundation and the 44 donors who have supported The Free Medical Clinic so far today. We’re also deeply thankful to the McNeish Family Donor Advised Fund of CCCF and our Board of Directors for making this day so impactful through their match opportunities.

We know this is a challenging time - costs are rising and many in our community are feeling the strain.

This year alone, we’ve welcomed 150+ new patients—an average of 3–6 new patients every day—many of whom have lost coverage due to the high costs of insurance, loss of subsidies, or changes in Medicaid.

Because life doesn’t stop during the workday, we hope to make it easier to get care by offering care beyond typical hours and in more places in our community.

Your support ensures patients receive care today and helps us reach even more people moving forward.
