Each June, Bassett Cancer Institute hosts a National Cancer Survivors Day Luncheon. This free-to-attend event brings survivors together to celebrate life in remission or after treatment, remember those no longer with us, and reflect on the triumphs and hardships of the fight against cancer.

This year at the event, Dwayne Durand, a local survivor, shared how he turned his diagnosis and his passions into an unexpected rolling monument.

We are happy to welcome Robert J. Leon, MD, FACC, who has joined Bassett Healthcare Network as an Attending Physician with Cardiology at Bassett Medical Center and FoxCare Center in Oneonta.

Dr. Leon earned his medical degree from Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the State University of New York at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY. His residency took place at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA. He completed his cardiology fellowship at Strong Memorial Hospital of the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.

Dr. Leon sees patients dealing with a variety of cardiovascular conditions, including angina (chest pain), atrial fibrillation (AFib), congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, heart valve problems, high blood pressure/hypertension, and high cholesterol. This care includes performing echocardiograms, electrocardiograms (EKGs), exercise stress tests, and nuclear stress tests.

Construction is progressing on the Harrison House Childcare Center on Bassett Medical Center’s campus! The center is expected to be complete later this year. The building preserves the historic look of the original Harrison House while offering new space and amenities. We are so excited to share more in the months to come!
