Galen Hope

Galen Hope Comprehensive treatment for primary mental health conditions, primary eating disorders, and/or complex dual diagnoses for adults and adolescents.

The Galen Hope experience is unique in that the treatment milieu is comprised of other clients, the staff, and the community at large. It is the synergy of these three components that creates the backdrop for the sound clinical services and strong behavioral supports and expectations that lead to an unlocking of the mental illness and the unfolding of the healing process. Our treatment integrates

the best concepts of residential programs, partial hospitalization programs, and community psychology in order to provide an experience that not only feels uniquely meaningful to the client, but also breaks the cycle of repeated hospitalizations, over-institutionalization, and isolation from community and family.

That quiet worry when your student comes home? Don't brush it off.

College breaks are often the first time families get a clear view of what's really been going on, and noticing something feels "off" is enough of a reason to reach out for support.

You don't have to wait for a crisis. You don't have to have the perfect words. A simple, caring conversation can be the first step toward getting your student the help they need.

Eating disorders are serious, and they are treatable. Early support makes a real difference in recovery.

Read our full guide for families. It covers what signs to look for, how to start the conversation, and how to navigate next steps together.

Today is World Eating Disorders Action Day.

This year’s theme, Breaking Bias. Supporting Families., is a reminder that eating disorders do not have one look, one story, or one path to recovery.

Behind every eating disorder is a person deserving of care, dignity, and understanding. Families deserve support, education, and compassion too.

Today, we advocate for greater awareness, stronger family support, and access to compassionate, evidence-informed care.

Recovery is possible. Support is available.

🔹 Can anorexia nervosa show up in teen athletes? Yes. In athletes, eating disorder warning signs can sometimes be mistaken for discipline, dedication, or commitment to performance.

🔹 What should parents, caregivers, and coaches watch for? Warning signs may include skipping meals, restrictive eating, overtraining even when injured or exhausted, preoccupation with weight, food, or body image, fatigue, dizziness, feeling cold often, mood changes, withdrawal from friends, or menstrual irregularities.

🔹 Why can it be hard to spot? For teen athletes, performance pressure, body expectations, and rigid routines can blur the line between “healthy habits” and disordered behaviors.

🔹 When should you reach out for help? If something feels off, trust your instincts. Early support can make a meaningful difference.

Galen Hope has deep expertise in treating eating disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions across the lifespan, including adolescents and adults, with individualized care that supports the whole person, not just the symptoms.

They had perfect attendance. Straight A's. A full schedule.

They were also quietly falling apart.

Academic achievement doesn't protect against eating disorders or mental health struggles, sometimes it masks them. High-achieving students are experts at looking fine.

If something feels off, trust that feeling. A simple conversation could be the most important one you have.

Summer is one of the best times to seek treatment. With school out, students have the space and time to focus fully on healing, without falling behind on classes or missing important milestones.

At Galen Hope, we specialize in eating disorder and mental health treatment for adolescents and young adults. Our compassionate team meets each person where they are, because recovery isn't one-size-fits-all.

If you or someone you love is struggling, don't wait for things to get worse. Reach out today.

Adolescents & Eating Disorders: Signs Residential Treatment May Be Needed

When an adolescent is struggling with an eating disorder, it can be hard to know when more support is needed.

Residential treatment may be appropriate when symptoms are affecting medical stability, safety, daily functioning, or the ability to recover at home.

Signs may include:

• Rapid weight changes or stalled growth
• Abnormal vitals, labs, or dehydration
• Severe restriction, bingeing, purging, or compulsive exercise
• Self-harm thoughts or severe anxiety/depression
• Difficulty completing meals without constant support
• Secretive eating disorder behaviors
• Limited progress in outpatient, IOP, or PHP
• Need for 24/7 structure and therapeutic support

If you’re unsure what level of care is right for your child, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Our team is here to answer questions, talk through treatment options, and help you understand what support could look like.
