Specialized ABA provides applied behavioral analysis to individuals with autism. Hello and Welcome to Specialized ABA! It is all in how you present it, truly.

I am passionate about helping my clients through the field of Behavioral Analysis. My strengths – teaching reading and math – developed when I taught elementary as an interventionist and media specialist. Now, I can easily pinpoint areas to focus on when academics are a concern and have a knack for instilling a love of reading in children. I’ve been a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst for almost 4 years and worked in the field for the past five years, bringing my total years of experience working with children to 20. I’m proudly a founding board member of the Volusia chapter of the Florida Association of Behavior Analysis (VABA). Please contact me for meeting information, I would love for you to come! I’ve lived in DeLand my entire adult life. When I am not working with my learners and families, I love being with my family or watching DeLand Bulldogs football where I am actively involved in the DeLand Century Club. DeLand IS my community. October is AAC Awareness Month!

And this isn’t about shaming anyone! It’s about keeping our eyes on what truly matters: consistent, rich modeling – without expectation.

The Agency for Healthcare Administration is currently in the process of Task Force meetings to rewrite the rules for ABA therapy in the state of Florida, with an emphasis on reducing costs. They just met yesterday and have another meeting on Monday. I'm the past 18 months, they have cut pay to providers by 20% across most medicaid insurance plans while continuing to require more work and higher standards from those same providers.

Yesterday's recommendations included reducing potential therapy hours overall based on criteria like the child's age or how long they've been in therapy, reducing therapy hours in school environments, limiting therapy to only certain diagnoses (like Autism) and requiring parents to participate in a specified minimum amount of therapy sessions or else their child cannot recieve services.

ABA is the only research based treatment for Autism that's available at this time, furthermore, ABA therapy acts as an alternative, more natural treatment to medications for diagnoses that include behavioral issues such as ADHD, ODD, and Conduct Disorder currently.

These changes have the potential to devastate the lives of families with special needs children as they face losing their childrens' primary, or often only line of support and treatment.

Survey for FAMILIES - Help Protect Access to ABA Therapy for Florida Families

Since Florida Medicaid transitioned to Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) in February 2025, many families have experienced delays, reductions, and disruptions in accessing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. We are collecting information from families across Florida to better understand how these changes have affected access to medically necessary services.

This confidential survey takes just 3–5 minutes to complete. Your responses will help identify statewide trends and provide lawmakers, state agencies, and advocacy organizations with real-world data to support efforts to improve access to ABA therapy for Florida's children and families.
