Myth: "Vision correction surgery is permanent. Once it's done, there's no going back."

Here's what's actually true that describes laser procedures. LASIK and PRK reshape the cornea by removing tissue, and that can't be undone.

It does not describe EVO ICL. The Collamer lens sits inside the eye and leaves the cornea alone. It can be surgically removed, returning the eye to its pre-operative state. As of 2026, it's the only widely available refractive procedure that is fully reversible.

"Permanent" isn't a property of vision correction. It's a property of some vision correction.

That's the hesitation. For EVO ICL, there's an actual answer.

You're not stuck. The Collamer lens can be surgically removed, and the eye returns to its pre-operative state — the same prescription you had before, glasses and contacts back on the table. No corneal tissue was removed or reshaped, so nothing was traded away.

Removal is outpatient, under numbing drops, generally under 15 minutes per eye. The micro-incision typically heals within days, without sutures.

Before you book an EVO ICL anywhere, ask the surgeon one question: "Have you ever taken one out?"

A surgeon who has only ever put lenses in has seen half the story. The one you want has handled the full lifecycle: implantation, long-term monitoring, and explantation when it's clinically warranted.

Three more worth asking:

• Do you personally perform the procedure, and any later removal?
• Do you track lens position and vault measurements over the years?
• Do you offer LASIK too? (A practice with one option can only ever recommend that one.)
