14-18 September 2026, our Nurse Corps leaders gathered for the fall Development Team and Board of Directors! The week began by convening to review and evaluate selection packages, determining the next selects for AFIT, SOAPN, and Fellowship opportunities. The week closed with the Board of Directors meeting to discuss & make critical decisions on Nurse Corps initiatives and strategic priorities across readiness and force development - Ensuring we continue to build a ready, agile & capable Nurse Corps that is positioned to meet future mission demands in our evolving operational environment.

It is with the deepest sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished colleague and friend, Lt Col Eric Rausch. On behalf of the Nurse Corps, we extend our sincere condolences and sympathy to Eric’s family, friends, and coworkers during this difficult time.

Eric dedicated his life to serving others, and his presence was a constant source of strength and reassurance to those around him. As a natural leader in the Medical Group, he was often the first to welcome new Airmen to the team and teach them the skills essential for working in the fast-paced emergency medicine environment. His profound impact has been expressed by all those who had the pleasure of working with him.

Eric was more than just a skilled nurse; he was a true embodiment of compassion, dedication, and selfless service. He had a presence, genuine kindness and unwavering commitment to his patients and colleagues. He was a mentor, a confidant, and a friend to many, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement. Though a nurse by trade, Eric always considered himself a "medic" at heart.

His impact on the lives he touched is immeasurable, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. The entire Nurse Corps family mourns this tremendous loss alongside his grieving family, friends, and peers. The JBER community has lost a valued member, and we share in their sorrow. Eric’s memory will forever be etched in our hearts, his legacy will echo in the work of hundreds of fellow medics he influenced, and he will continue to inspire us all.

During this incredibly difficult time, we ask that you extend your love and support to one another. Please wrap your arms around our entire community as we honor the memory of a truly extraordinary son, husband, father, nurse and leader.
