We know this to be true with our autistic kiddos we serve!

Research Insight✨

A randomized controlled trial exploring the effects of child-centered play therapy (CCPT) with autistic children found significant evidence that CCPT fosters feelings of relaxation and enhances behavior.

In this study, 65 autistic children ages 6–10 in Hong Kong participated in either:
• 8 sessions of CCPT, or
• a waitlist control group

Researchers used electroencephalography measurements and parent behavior reports before and after the intervention.

Children who received CCPT showed:
✨ Increased relaxation responses measured through EEG alpha power
✨ Significant behavioral improvements
✨ Increased social functioning

The authors also discuss directions for future research and important limitations.

This study is included in the Evidence-Based Child Therapy database at https://evidencebasedchildtherapy.com/

❎ It’s a myth that q***r and trans people are inherently unwell because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. 🧿

💪🏽🫶🏻While it’s true that systemic oppression (NOT LGBTQ+ identity) can make it difficult for anyone to feel well, can we talk about how q***r and trans people are some of the most mentally and emotionally resilient people out there?! 🤲🏽🙌🏻

🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈They can teach everyone a thing or two about facing adversity, stigma, oppression, and more, and remaining JOYFUL in the face of it all. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

🎉🌳Later this month, we finally get to gather as a team to celebrate Kindred’s 10th Anniversary!

🩵🌳Though KTHC’s official anniversary was in April, this team STAYS busy! So we take our time to savor celebrating together- anniversaries, holidays, finishing another great read for our book club, annual retreats, or for no particular reason at all except that we truly enjoy being together.

🎊🌳We said it in April, but we’ll say it again- Happy Anniversary, Kindred Tree Healing Center!

🧠✨Neuroaffirming coping strategies are not ‘one size fits all’ for all neurodivergent (ND) people. Just like neurotypical people, ND thrive under some conditions *some of the time, but need to adjust for when things change.

We all need alone time, and yet no one thrives in total isolation. Finding a balance can be hard for ND people because their capacity shifts in ways that don’t typically impact neurotypical people in the same way. 🫶🏽🌳
