We've already declared a Blood Emergency. Now, blood centers nationwide are sounding the alarm.

The American Red Cross has declared only the second national blood crisis in its history, underscoring the challenges blood providers across the country are facing. Summer donations continue to lag while patient needs remain constant. Blood can't be manufactured, and it can't wait.

When our community gets the call, they answer. ❤️🩸 After hearing about the blood emergency, father and son duo Jim and Mark didn't hesitate to make appointments at their nearest blood drive.

As first-time donors, they felt there was no better time to give. Plus, Jim, a retired firefighter, understands firsthand how critical blood donations are during emergencies, and together he and Mark chose to make a lifesaving difference.

A blood emergency means our supply has dropped to just a 1–2 day reserve. That's why we don't just respond to emergencies, we also prepare for what's ahead.

Hospitals let us know when major surgeries are scheduled, and right now several liver transplants are planned in our area. We need donors now so blood ready when these patients need it. 🩸

Some things are just better with a friend. ❤️ Reyna stopped by our donor center and rolled up her sleeve for the very first time, and she brought her friend and fellow nurse, Jessica, along for the experience!

Thank you both for saving lives on and off the clock. We hope this is just the beginning of many donations to come!

"I feel honored to be able to help someone in such a critical way. I kept thinking, 'What if I, my son, my wife, or any family or friend needed this?' I would hope someone would answer the call for them as well.”

In 2004, Zack joined the bone marrow registry with the hope of helping a friend who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Unfortunately, Zack wasn't a match and the call he was waiting for never came. Despite this, he stayed on the registry anyway. Years passed and life moved forward. Then, almost two decades later, his phone rang.

This time, he was a match for a woman he had never met who was battling leukemia and desperately needed a donor.

Today, Zack is both a lifesaver and advocate, using his experience to encourage others to join the registry.

"I was told by the nurses that it is often people of color and different ethnic backgrounds that have the hardest time finding a match. Being of Asian descent myself, I hope more people entering the registry can help address that disparity."

Need a reason to smile? 😊 Donating blood feels good because it does good. Every donation has the power to help patients in need and give families hope — especially during a blood emergency, when supplies run low and every unit counts. It's amazing how one hour of your time can have such a big impact.
