๐ŸŒฟ Rest is an essential part of our mental, physical and emotional health and wellbeing. Lack of rest has been linked to an increased risk of illness, fatigue and a general decrease in overall wellness. Despite the information that we have about the negative effects of too little rest and relaxation, we live in a society that rewards "being busy".

What can we do to find the balance? ๐Ÿ›

Practicing self-care and being mindful of our thinking are two things which can have positive effects. Give yourself permission to put yourself first. Just like you would schedule any other appointment or task, you have the ability to schedule non-negotiable time for yourself- and you should! ๐ŸŒฟ

In recovery, we are so focused on moving forward that sometimes we forget that standing still is not only acceptable, it's necessary. Today, take time for you. Find a quiet place, leave your electronics behind and enjoy five minutes of your own thoughts and feelings. Close your eyes and pay attention to your breath. Notice the air on your skin. Listen to the sounds around you. Don't fight the thoughts that come into your mind; let them come and then let them leave. Recenter, bringing your focus back to your breath. ๐ŸŒธ

๐ŸŒฟ Lowered stress levels, reduced anxiety, improved focus, improved sleep quality, increased self-compassion, and better emotional regulation are just some of the science-backed benefits of mindful rest and meditation. Just five minutes, daily, acts as a mental "reset" and encourages development of long-term self-care routines.

๐ŸŒผ Today's goal: Replace five minutes of scrolling with five minutes of mindful rest and meditation.

"Connection is the opposite of addiction"... We've all heard that phrase. What does it mean? ๐ŸŒฟ

The "Opposite of Addiction Theoryโ€ was introduced by author Johann Hari. It suggests that addiction is much more than dependance on chemicals; it is a need for connection. Addiction, according to the theory, is driven by isolation and trauma. Studies show that healthy human relationships, social bonding, a sense of community, and access to community supports and resources, are critical in achieving recovery goals, finding meaning and purpose, and in treating the underlying condition which addiction is the symptom of.

I would say that we are so lucky to have such a well-connected, caring and compassionate recovery community in New Hampshire; especially here, in the Greater Manchester Area.... but it isn't luck. It's intent. Each and every individual within our community, whether theyโ€™re a helper or in need of help, has one thing in common - they genuinely care about each other.

This unconditional love and support that is present and practiced every single day is amazing and it is all because of YOU! ๐ŸŒฟ

Change is an inevitable, necessary, and often challenging aspect of life. It can foster growth, new opportunities, and personal development, but change is not easy. Embracing change requires letting go of fear; fear of failure and of the unknown.

It also requires honoring the space between what we are leaving behind and what we are moving towards. Sitting in the uncertainty, in the discomfort, is where true growth happens. ๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŒฟ "We don't see the world as it is, we see it as we are." - Anais Nin

๐ŸŒฟ Many of us have the same daily routine. We wake up, we get ready and we continue with our responsibilities. Some mornings we feel as though everything lines up for us, and on others, we can't get out of our own way. If the routine doesn't change, though, why does our experience?

Our external experience is directly affected by our internal condition. Our mindset, beliefs and biases are constantly framing the way that we are viewing and interacting with the world around us; what we give our attention and energy to is up to us.

๐ŸŒฟ The Acorn Center utilizes Three Principles Psychology, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Buddhist Philosophy, meditation, and other practices and models, in order to share the skills needed to address difficult thinking, create a better reality and support individuals in their long term recovery.

๐ŸŒฟWhat does health mean to you?

๐ŸŒฟWhat are you doing, today, to support your whole-being wellness?

Health Realization, based in Three Principles Psychology, is a resiliency-based approach to wellness which focuses on innate mental health, wellbeing and inner wisdom. The goal is not to "fix" what we perceive as wrong, but rather to focus on what we already know is right.

At The Acorn Center NH we utilize this practice of awareness in creating our own experience of reality through our thinking. The goal of this practice is to access the inner peace and resilience that we already possess in order to manage difficult thoughts, learn new skills, reduce stress and achieve long term success in recovery.
