🌟 Meet Brooke Robinson, Counseling Intern!

We are excited to introduce Brooke Robinson, the newest counseling intern at Rise Counseling & Wellness! Brooke is currently pursuing her master’s degree in the Addiction Counseling program at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. She previously earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology, with a focus on Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies, from Texas Tech University.

Brooke is passionate about creating a supportive, respectful, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable exploring their experiences and working toward meaningful change. Her approach is person-centered and incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and solution-focused techniques to help clients recognize their strengths, develop practical coping skills, and work toward their goals.

Brooke believes that everyone deserves a space where they can feel supported for not only where they are, but also for who they are. She encourages clients to give themselves grace, remember that growth takes time, and recognize that being a work in progress is something to be proud of.

Outside of counseling, Brooke enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying new restaurants, practicing self-care, and rewatching her favorite movies.

We are proud to have Brooke as part of the Rise Counseling & Wellness team and look forward to supporting her as she continues her journey toward becoming a counselor!

🌍 World Su***de Prevention Day | September 10th

Today, we stand together to raise awareness, break the stigma, and remind others that hope and support are always worth sharing.

Su***de prevention begins with connection. Taking the time to listen, checking in with someone who may be struggling, and encouraging them to seek support can make a meaningful difference. You do not have to have all the answers, sometimes, simply being present and helping someone feel heard is an important first step.

At Rise Counseling & Wellness, we believe mental health support should be accessible, compassionate, and free from judgment. If you or someone you know is struggling, reaching out to a trusted person or mental health professional can be a powerful step toward healing.

💛 You are not alone. Your life matters.

Play is more than just fun, it is one of the ways children naturally communicate, express emotions, and make sense of the world around them. Play therapy provides children with a safe, supportive environment where they can explore their feelings, build coping skills, strengthen communication, and work through challenges in a way that feels natural to them.

Through age-appropriate activities and therapeutic play, children can develop emotional regulation, confidence, problem-solving skills, and healthier ways to express themselves.

At Rise Counseling & Wellness, we believe every child deserves a space where they can feel understood, supported, and free to be themselves. 🌱

Small steps can make a meaningful difference in your mental health. Taking care of your mental well-being doesn’t always require major changes. Simple, intentional habits, such as making time for fun, practicing forgiveness, incorporating daily meditation, planning time away from your routine, and building one healthy habit at a time, can support emotional wellness and help reduce everyday stress.

Remember, self-care is not selfish; it is an important part of maintaining your overall well-being. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or struggling to make positive changes on your own, therapy can provide a supportive space to explore your emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, and work toward your personal goals.

💛 Start small. Be consistent. Give yourself grace.

💛 September is National Su***de Prevention Month.

This month, we’re reminded of the importance of compassion, connection, and open conversations about mental health. Su***de prevention starts with recognizing when someone may be struggling, reaching out, listening without judgment, and helping them connect with the support they need.

Therapy can be an important part of that support. A therapist can provide a safe, confidential space to talk through difficult emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, work through challenges, and build skills for navigating life’s hardest moments. Seeking therapy isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a meaningful step toward healing and well-being.

A simple “How are you really doing?” can open the door to a conversation that matters. Let’s choose kindness, spread hope, and remind one another that every life has value and no one has to face difficult moments alone. 💛

🌱 Helping Your Child Build a Stronger Mental Health Foundation

Parents play an important role in supporting their children’s emotional and mental well-being. Creating a safe, supportive environment at home can help children feel secure, understood, and comfortable expressing what they are experiencing.

Here are a few ways parents can support their child’s mental health:

💛 Build positive connections: Spend intentional time together and let your child know they are valued, heard, and supported.

💬 Encourage expression: Create an open environment where your child can talk about their feelings without fear of judgment. Listen first and focus on understanding their perspective.

🌱 Model healthy behavior: Children learn by watching the adults around them. Demonstrating healthy communication, coping skills, boundaries, and self-care can teach children how to manage their own emotions.

📱 Set healthy screen-time boundaries: Encourage balance between technology, sleep, physical activity, family time, school, and other activities that support overall well-being.

Most importantly, remember that supporting your child’s mental health does not mean having all the answers. Being present, listening, and creating a safe space for honest conversations can make a meaningful difference. 💛

🌱 Mental Health Check-In: Take a Moment to Ask Yourself How You’re Really Doing

Just like we check in on our physical health, it’s important to regularly check in with our mental and emotional well-being. A mental health check-in can help us recognize what we need before stress, exhaustion, or difficult emotions become overwhelming.

Consider asking yourself:

💭 What am I feeling? Take time to identify and acknowledge your emotions rather than ignoring them.

😴 Am I getting enough sleep? Consistent, quality sleep plays an important role in mood, focus, and overall mental wellness.

🍎 Am I eating regularly? Maintaining regular meals and proper nutrition can support both physical and emotional well-being.

💛 Am I being kind to myself and others? Practice self-compassion and remember that everyone has difficult days.

🗣️ Who can I talk to? Having trusted people you can turn to can provide connection, encouragement, and support.

🌼 Am I feeling okay? Give yourself permission to be honest about how you’re doing. If you’re struggling, reaching out for support is a sign of strength—not weakness.

A simple check-in with yourself can be the first step toward taking better care of your mental health. Your well-being matters.

💛 Understanding and Supporting Child Anxiety 💛

Anxiety can look different in every child. It may appear as worry or fear, but it can also show up through physical symptoms such as frequent headaches, stomachaches, difficulty sleeping, irritability, restlessness, or trouble concentrating. Some children may even begin avoiding school, activities, or situations that make them feel uncomfortable.

Recognizing these signs early can make a meaningful difference. Parents and caregivers can support children by:

✨ Listening with empathy and without judgment
✨ Offering reassurance and patience
✨ Keeping daily routines consistent
✨ Encouraging relaxation, play, and healthy activities
✨ Celebrating progress, even when it comes in small steps

Children can also build healthy coping skills through deep breathing, journaling or drawing, talking with a trusted adult, physical activity, and practicing positive self-talk.

Most importantly, children do not have to navigate anxiety alone. Creating a safe, supportive environment where children feel heard and understood can help them build confidence and develop skills to manage difficult emotions.

If you notice ongoing anxiety that is interfering with your child’s daily life, professional support can be an important next step. 💛

The Benefits of Therapy Go Beyond Talking

Therapy can provide meaningful benefits that support your mental and emotional well-being. Sometimes, simply having someone listen without judgment can help relieve the weight you’ve been carrying and bring greater mental clarity.

✨ Saying your fears out loud can make them feel less scary. Expressing your worries and fears can help reduce their intensity and make them easier to understand and manage.

🛋️ Create a space where you feel safe. When you have a positive connection with your therapist, appointments can become a place of comfort, support, and protection where you can be open and authentic.

🌱 Get to know yourself more deeply. Therapy can help you develop greater awareness of your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and experiences. The process is not always linear, but each step can help you better understand yourself and create more order in the chaos.

Most importantly, mental health is important. Taking care of your mental health is an important part of taking care of your overall well-being.

If you’ve been considering therapy, you don’t have to navigate everything alone. 💛
