Els for Autism is devoted to helping children and adults with autism and their families have a better life. Our purpose is to help people with autism of all abilities reach their fullest potential and live meaningful, fulfilling lives, while supporting the caregivers who walk alongside them.

Today, we remember Marvin R. Shanken, our co-founder, dear friend, and a driving force behind Els for Autism.

When Ernie and Liezl Els shared their family’s autism journey in 2009, Marvin and his wife, Hazel, stood alongside them to help turn a deeply personal experience into a mission that would reach families around the world. His generosity, leadership, and commitment helped build Els for Autism into the global organization it is today. His support helped bring the foundation’s mission to life, creating the groundwork for the programs, resources, and global reach that continue to make a difference in the lives of individuals with autism and their families.

We are grateful for all Marvin did to help build Els for Autism and advance its mission. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Hazel, his family, friends, and all who loved him. His legacy will live on through the lives touched by Els for Autism and the work that will carry his legacy forward for generations to come.

DICK'S Sporting Goods / Golf Galaxy recently worked with U Can Employ on a three-part staff training series in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

The training focuses on understanding autism and practical ways staff can create a more welcoming experience for autistic customers and employees.

The final training took place this October and was conducted with the company's corporate HR teams. Dick's Sporting Goods / Golf Galaxy is now officially an autism inclusive employer through their work with U Can Employ!

Three years on the job is a big accomplishment.

This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re proud to highlight Will, who has worked as a Recreation Assistant at Burns Road Community Center since October 2023.

Over the past three years, Will has continued to build his skills and take on more responsibility at work. With support from our Employment Programs team, he has become more independent in his role.

Since his case has been successfully closed, Will has been able to continue his job independently. We’re proud of the progress Will has made and everything he has accomplished along the way.

This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re proud to celebrate a partnership that is expanding opportunities for neurodiverse individuals. 💙

The Friendship Foundation has launched its new Vocational Pathways Program, using the Work Experience Program at Els for Autism as a model to help participants develop job skills, gain hands-on experience, and work toward long-term employment.

Through partnerships like this, we can continue building a workforce where neurodiverse individuals have the opportunity to contribute their talents and pursue their career goals.
