It's Men's Health Week, and we want to say something plainly: asking for help is not weakness. It is, actually, one of the harder things to do.

Men in our communities die by su***de at nearly four times the rate of women. Not because they suffer more, but often because they've learned to suffer quietly. "Strong and silent" is a framework that costs lives.

If you're a man who's been white-knuckling it alone, we see you. If you love one: check in. A real conversation can open a door that was sealed shut.

June is PTSD Awareness Month, and for us at UHBH, it's a reminder of why this work matters.

Post-traumatic stress doesn't announce itself neatly. It shows up in sleep that won't come, in relationships that quietly fray, in ordinary moments that suddenly don't feel safe. PTSD can follow combat, but also childhood abuse, accidents, medical trauma, violence - the full range of human suffering.

If you or someone you love is carrying something heavy right now, help is here. You don't have to earn your way to healing; you just have to take the first step. 💙

In the fall of 2024, University Health opened the new Center for Recovery and Wellness, expanding access to critical addiction and recovery services for those who need them most—people like Jennifer, who came to the center seeking help for an addiction to pain medications. This work is possible in part to the generous support of donors to the University Health Foundation. Take a moment to watch Jennifer’s powerful story of recovery.

May is both National Trauma Awareness Month and Mental Health Awareness Month, a timely opportunity to highlight the importance of trauma-informed care.

Grounded in the neurobiology of stress, resilience, and well-being, a trauma-informed approach:
💡 Recognizes the widespread impact of trauma
💡 Integrates that understanding into policies, procedures, and daily practice
💡 Works to actively prevent re-traumatization, for both those we serve and those doing the work
💡 Promotes healing, growth, and system-wide well-being

Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing principles and practical resources to support both our workforce and the communities we serve.
