Levea Johnson, the daughter of James Eli and Pairlee Welch, was born March 18, 1934 in Evans, Louisiana. She peacefully entered eternal rest Tuesday, September 1, 2026 in Waldorf, Maryland surrounded by loving family at the age of 92 years 5 months and 16 days.

Levea spent most of her early life in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. She graduated as valedictorian from Evans High School and played forward on the basketball team. She enjoyed singing on live gospel radio. She married Almon Johnson on May 7, 1952.

Levea was a devoted wife and mother. She was generous with all that she had, humble in all that she did, and never sought recognition for the love she poured into her family and those around her. Her gentle heart brought comfort in difficult moments, her strength carried others through times of hardship, and her wisdom was a source of guidance for generations. She taught those who loved her that true strength can be quiet, that kindness can leave a lasting mark, and that a life lived with love is a life that never truly ends.

Levea was an exceptional seamstress and handmade everything from quilts to formal gowns. She had an amazing skill at cooking and handing down family recipes, especially her chicken ‘n dumplings that were always requested for family reunions. She enjoyed music, classic movies, and playing scrabble.

James E. Lawler, Sr., 84, of Waldorf, passed away on September 1, 2026 in Clinton, MD.

Jim was born in Washington, DC on October 17, 1941 to John and Clara Lawler. He had a 54-year career as a residential and commercial painter. He was known for making everyone laugh with his jokes. He loved spending time with his family. In his spare time, he loved to golf, bowl, fish, hunt, play tennis, play cards and go to the casino.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents John and Clara Lawler, sister Donna and brother Jackie.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol, son James Jr. (Cindy), sisters, Regis (Alan), Terri, and Shari (TW), two granddaughters and 3 great grandchildren.

A Visitation for Jim will be on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at Raymond Funeral Service Chapel in La Plata from 5 - 7pm.

Maurice Eugene Foster II, 78, of Waldorf Maryland passed on August 30th, 2026.
Born to Maurice E. Foster and Willa Mae (Raby) Foster, on December 16, 1947 in Washington DC.
After high school Maurice joined the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam war. After the war he became a carpet installer, for Floor Crafters.
He enjoyed; turkey hunting and was a member of the No Hunt, Hunt Club. He was an avid Washington Nationals and Washington Commanders fan. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 238. He enjoyed watching his great grand children at sporting events and loved spending time with his family.
Maurice is predeceased by his parents, wife Julia Foster, brother Greg Foster, sisters-in-law; Sue Foster and Linda Kimble, brother-in-law Leo Cummins, son-in-law Eddie Grieninger and grandson Micheal Dodson, Jr. He is survived by; brothers Mike Foster (Sharon), Glenn Foster (Bobbie); sisters Kathryn Cummins, Gwen Fitzgerald (Mike). Brother-in-law John Langley (Patti) and Sister-in-law Ella Langley (Denny). Sons; Maurice E. Foster III (Tracey), and James Wahl. Daughters; Rhonda Simpson (Robert), Cheri Grinder (Jerry) and Amanda Grieninger. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on September 10th, 2026 from 2-4pm, and 6-8pm. Service will be at 11am on September 11th, 2026. Burial will be at Cheltenham Veteran’s Cemetery, at a later date.

RICKY LEE HUGGINS
September 7, 1964 – August 18, 2026

Ricky Lee Huggins, 61, of Lufkin, Texas, passed away on August 18, 2026, in La Plata, Maryland peacefully in his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was with the love of his life, Julie Huggins (Martin) and family.

Rick was born September 7, 1964, in Lufkin, Texas, to Helen Holmes (Shires) and Fred Huggins.

He graduated from Lufkin High School in 1983. Proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring in February 2004. He later graduated Magna Cum Laude from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and began a second career of dedicated civilian service with the Federal Railroad Administration, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, work that carried the family to Georgia, Kansas, and Louisiana before they settled in Maryland.

Rick loved fishing, football, Texas Hold’em and home improvements. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, a dedicated and steadfast father, and a good friend to have in your corner.

Rick is survived by his devoted wife, Julie Huggins (Martin); his children, Jeremy Lee Huggins, Carissa (Scott) Bailey, Monica (Jacob) Kubek, and grandchildren, Piper Lee Kubek, Mason Kubek, and Matthew Kubek, Kaydon VanWagenen, Amelia Bailey, Elizabeth Bailey; his mother, Helen Holmes (Shires); his younger brothers, David Huggins and Greg Huggins; and his beloved dog Max.

A celebration of life will be in Lufkin, Texas, on October 3, 2026. Details to follow.

Paul Ray Kretzing, III, 79, of Waldorf, MD, passed away on August 27, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was born on August 18, 1947, in California, to June H. (Brownfield) and Paul R. Kretzing, Jr.

As the child of a Military father, Paul lived in several places, including Germany, before his family settled into the DC Metropolitan area sometime around 1957.

Paul graduated from the University of Maryland with his Bachelor’s Degree. He later earned his Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University. He began his lifelong career with the Federal Government at age 18. He started with Navy Oceanography around 1965 and ended with his retirement in 2003 from the Department of Defense (Defense Contract Management Agency) as a Traffic Management Specialist.

Paul was a loving and dedicated family man. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. He retired from the Government so that he could be a stay-at-home grandpa and caregiver to his grandchildren. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, traveling, and exploring history. He was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Waldorf, MD.

In addition to his parents, Paul and June Kretzing, he is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Kretzing.

She is predeceased by her parents, husband; Edward Walter, children; Debbie Balaban and Donald Walter.

She is survived by her sons; Thomas Walter, Joseph Walter and his wife Julie, daughter; Vicki Dean, grandchildren; Matthew, Abby, Patrick, Greg, Mariah, Daniel, Gina, Ben, Emily.

Patricia Ann (Bowie) Arroyo, 79, of Hill Top, Maryland, passed on August 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 19, 1947, in La Plata, MD, to Walter and Daisy Lena Bowie.
She is predeceased by her parents, her first husband George Rincon, her brother Louis Bowie, and her sister Nora Lee Coulby. She is survived by her children, Georgeann (Rincon) Songy and Jason Arroyo, and her longtime companion and former husband, Fred Arroyo. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Ashley (Songy) Lipp, Ryan Songy, and Danielle (Songy) Navarro, and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

There are some people whose lives cannot be measured simply by the number of years they lived, but by the lives they touched.
With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Ann Teresa Middleton Marlow, who passed away peacefully at home on August 22, 2026, at the remarkable age of 101.
Born on October 04, 1924, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Baltimore. She graduated from the Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in 1942. Ann attended the Temple Secretarial School in 1942-1943.
Ann lived through more than a century of history. She experienced times of hardship and times of joy. Always meeting life’s challenges with determination, strength, remarkable resilience and love for her family. She witnessed incredible changes in the world while remaining a steady source of comfort, wisdom, and grace to those who knew her.
Her greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose home and heart were always open. She taught by example—showing the importance of hard work, compassion, humility, and caring for one another. Her love will continue to live on in the lives of everyone she touched.
Ann married the love of her life, Walter Eugene Marlow Jr., on June 9, 1956, at Holy Family Church, Hillcrest Heights, Maryland.

Sherrie Lee Kubala, 82, of Waldorf, Maryland, passed away on August 23, 2026, in La Plata, Maryland, surrounded by her loved ones.

Sherrie was born on March 8, 1944, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to the late Thomas Woodrow and Kathleen Ault. Smart, determined and independent from the start, she graduated from Cutter-Morning Star High School in 1962 as valedictorian of her class. That same year, her local VFW was sponsoring her to compete for Miss Hot Springs as part of the Miss America program. But Sherrie had other plans. Before the pageant ever took place, she packed up and headed for Washington, D.C., where she began working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

It was at the FBI that Sherrie met Joseph D. “Joe” Kubala, although their love story didn’t exactly begin as one. Joe was coaching the FBI women’s softball team when Sherrie tried out, and to say it wasn’t love at first sight would be an understatement. Sherrie was decidedly unimpressed with her future husband. Fortunately, first impressions aren’t always lasting ones. The two married on January 12, 1963, and went on to share more than 63 years of marriage. They soon left Washington for Maryland, where they built their life together and raised their two sons, Joseph and Tom.

Roger Anthony Palmer of White Plains, MD passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026 after a long illness surrounded by the love of his family.

Roger was born on November 5,1946 in Schenectady NY and was the son of the later Roger Palmer and Josephine (Riccardi) Palmer. Roger graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in Schenectady in 1964. In September of that year, he joined the United States Marines. He was a proud retired United States Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran who served his country with honor and dedication. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to public service with a distinguished career as a Washington D.C. Police Officer retiring in 1989. After retirement from the Police Department, he was a security guard for the DEA.

Above all else, Roger was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He took immense joy in watching his children and grandchildren grow, especially cheering them on at their sporting events. Roger enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and loved watching NHL Hockey and Lacrosse. Whether following his favorite teams or sitting in the stands supporting his children and grandchildren, he found his greatest happiness spending time with the people he loved.
