Levea Johnson, the daughter of James Eli and Pairlee Welch, was born March 18, 1934 in Evans, Louisiana. She peacefully entered eternal rest Tuesday, September 1, 2026 in Waldorf, Maryland surrounded by loving family at the age of 92 years 5 months and 16 days.
Levea spent most of her early life in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. She graduated as valedictorian from Evans High School and played forward on the basketball team. She enjoyed singing on live gospel radio. She married Almon Johnson on May 7, 1952.
Levea was a devoted wife and mother. She was generous with all that she had, humble in all that she did, and never sought recognition for the love she poured into her family and those around her. Her gentle heart brought comfort in difficult moments, her strength carried others through times of hardship, and her wisdom was a source of guidance for generations. She taught those who loved her that true strength can be quiet, that kindness can leave a lasting mark, and that a life lived with love is a life that never truly ends.
Levea was an exceptional seamstress and handmade everything from quilts to formal gowns. She had an amazing skill at cooking and handing down family recipes, especially her chicken ‘n dumplings that were always requested for family reunions. She enjoyed music, classic movies, and playing scrabble.
