About Starting Therapy (and what's actually true)
If something's been holding you back, this one's for you.
Here are 4 fears we hear all the time:
"I'll have to talk about my whole childhood."
Truth: You share what you're ready to share. A good therapist follows your lead. Nothing is forced. You're always in control of what you bring to the room.
"I'll feel worse before I feel better."
Truth: Discomfort isn't the same as harm. Some things do feel tender as you look at them. A skilled therapist helps you move at a pace that feels workable.
"Therapy is only for people in crisis."
Truth: You don't have to be falling apart to get support. Most people in therapy are high-functioning adults who want to understand themselves better or stop repeating patterns.
"My therapist will judge me."
Truth: We've heard it. We don't judge it. The therapeutic relationship is one of the safest spaces you'll find. That's kind of the point.
Still holding back? Your hesitation is valid and worth a conversation.
