Innovation often starts with identifying a challenge and finding a better way to address it. 👁️

Dr. Fram recently introduced The Crimper, a novel device designed to help standardize scleral tunnel length during the Yamane technique for secondary intraocular lens (IOL) fixation.

Why does this matter? 💭 Small variations in tunnel length can contribute to IOL tilt and decentration. The Crimper creates a visible 2.0 mm depth marker on the surgical needle, helping surgeons create more consistent tunnels while preserving the needle’s internal opening.

The device has also shown value in surgical training, helping fellows better understand tunnel length and needle positioning as they develop their skills.
