CCA celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15) with this year’s theme, “Unidos, Somos Más” — Together, We Are More.

Together, we honor the voices, cultures, and contributions of the Hispanic and Latinx communities we serve — including the skilled, professional, and essential caregivers who make up 42% of California’s direct care workforce.

For Healthy Aging Month in September... CCA supports healthy aging by supporting the people who help older adults live well as they age.

CCA offers training programs for caregivers who are In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) providers, and staff members in skilled nursing facilities who provide direct care as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and other care staff.

Our training programs focus on high-quality, person-centered care that enables individuals to age safely and independently.

Did you know that over 55 million people live with dementia globally? September is World Alzheimer's Month—a time to learn more about Alzheimer's Disease & Related Dementias (ADRD).🧠

CCA offers a training course for IHSS caregivers who care for adults aged 55 and older who show signs of dementia or Alzheimer's. Knowing the difference between normal aging and signs of Alzheimer’s is critical, empowering both caregivers and families to utilize the caregiving methods and approaches that will best support the individual.

Students in CCA's ADRD course learn to:

✅Recognize symptoms of ADRD vs. normal aging
✅Observe, monitor, document & report symptoms or changes
✅Manage behaviors like agitation, anxiety, delerium, wandering & more

According to research by UCSF Health, after taking this ADRD training, students showed gains in these areas:

⭐100% of caregiver graduates increased their dementia knowledge significantly & demonstrated strong knowledge retention in a three-month post-training survey

⭐96% felt that they acquired new caregiving skills from the training curriculum

⭐94% agreed that communication with their consumer improved after training

New Report! The Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA) has released a report on its successful Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Registered Apprenticeship Programs. We're happy to share the outcomes of the CNA RAP & LVN RAP, which enabled 300+ Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) workers to advance their skills!

From 2022-2025, CCA worked with multiple SNF employers across California to provide their facility workers in non-nursing roles the opportunity to develop nursing skills and move into healthcare jobs and new career pathways. These training programs were made possible for SNFs through their participation in the Education Fund and membership in the SEIU2015.

Here is what a CNA RAP graduate had to say about this upskilling career opportunity:

“This program offered resources and tools to help ensure my success, free of obstacles. I am more than thankful for the opportunity! This program put me on the path to a career and a promising future.”
-- Anthony W., CNA

Women's Equality Day champions the ongoing fight for gender parity every August 26. On this day we celebrate all women who have taken steps to change the world for the better.🌍

At CCA we take this opportunity to honor the long-term caregiving workforce, the majority of whom are women. We are proud to serve the community of caregivers, who provide essential work to thousands of people in California every day.

We also take this opportunity to honor the special women who, as union members of SEIU Local 2015 25-plus years ago, founded the Home Care Workers Training Center (HCWTC), which later became the Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA). Our founders wanted to provide In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) caregivers with training so they'd have better opportunities for equal pay to build better jobs & better lives for themselves and provide quality care for their care recipients.

CCA thanks the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), which provided grant funding that made it possible for CCA to offer a "Digital Literacy for IHSS Providers" course.

The success of this program showed that digital literacy is more important than ever for caregivers, with the broad adoption of online learning formats and digital approaches to accessing health information.

Our first cohort of caregiver students received a free digital device upon graduation to support their continued use of digital tools & resources.
