At age 30, Jaclyn received an early-stage breast cancer diagnosis. Further testing revealed a BRIP1 genetic mutation that put her at higher risk for certain cancers, adding another layer to her family-building journey.

With the guidance of Dr. Natalie Cekliniak at CCRM Fertility of New Jersey, Jaclyn and her husband, Eric, explored IVF to screen their embryos for the mutation and make informed decisions about their family’s future.

Throughout the process, Jaclyn and Eric felt reassured by Dr. Cekliniak and her team. As Jaclyn shares, “Their kindness, acumen and humility while answering every one of our questions with detail was remarkable.”

After transferring an embryo that spontaneously split in two, Jaclyn and Eric welcomed identical twin girls, Madelyn and Emma. Now 2.5 years old, the girls are happy, healthy and thriving.

Jaclyn reflected, “We were SO lucky to have found doctors who truly cared about us as a family and our family’s future.”

We’re so happy for Jaclyn and her family, and grateful to have been part of their journey every step of the way. 💗

Today is 🕯️ Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day 🕯️, honoring the babies we lost, the grief we’ve experienced, and the parents whose family-building journeys didn't go as planned.

Each October 15, people around the world take part in the International Wave of Light to remember the pregnancies and babies they carry in their hearts. At 7 p.m. local time, we light a candle to honor their memories, recognize the heartbreak of pregnancy and infant loss, and remind others who have experienced it that they're not alone. As candles are lit across time zones, the collective light continues around the world for 24 hours.

Light a candle in memory of a pregnancy or baby, to honor your own experience, or to show love to a friend or family member who has experienced this kind of heartbreak. 💔

Sending love and light from CCRM Fertility. 🕯️

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder to talk about something that may not be top of mind after a diagnosis: fertility and the possibility of having a family in the future.

A breast cancer diagnosis can turn your world upside down. With so much to process and so many decisions to make, fertility may not be the first thing on your mind. And that’s okay.

But if having a family is something you may want someday, it’s worth knowing that you have options.

Dr. Abbaa Sarhan, reproductive endocrinologist at CCRM Fertility of Northern Virginia, shares why fertility preservation is worth considering before starting cancer treatment.

At CCRM Fertility, we’re here to answer your questions, help you understand your options, and make sure you feel informed as you navigate what comes next. You don’t have to have all the answers right now. We’re here for you. 💗

Will losing weight improve your fertility if you have PMOS?

For women with PMOS, formerly known as PCOS, being overweight can affect insulin resistance, which can interfere with ovulation. Dr. Laurence Jacobs of CCRM Fertility & Gynecologic Surgeons of Illinois says, yes, losing weight *can* improve your chances of getting pregnant.

However, Dr. Jacobs notes that you may not have to lose as much weight as you think...

Watch the video for an explainer on the correlation between weight, PMOS, and fertility, plus how GLP-1 medications come into play.

Remember though: You don't need to hit a certain number on the scale before starting fertility treatment. The ultimate goal in losing weight is to improve metabolic health and ovarian function to maximize your chances of a healthy pregnancy.
