Spring means more outdoor play—and that’s a great thing for kids.

But those long, active days also come with a lot more stimulation than their nervous system is used to.

March is Caffeine Awareness Month, which makes it a good time to talk about something many of us rely on for energy.

Caffeine works by stimulating your nervous system, specifically the body’s fight or flight response. This increases things like heart rate, cortisol, and adrenaline, which is why you may feel more alert after drinking it.

But here’s an important thought:

Caffeine doesn’t always create stress in the body—it often reveals how much stress your nervous system is already carrying.

When the nervous system is functioning and adapting well, the body handles stress, stimulation, sleep, and energy much more efficiently.

But when the system is overwhelmed, even small things can start to feel bigger.

Sometimes the solution isn’t just another cup of coffee.
