Happy ! 💪

Meet Delores! After a bad fall on the ice left her with wrist pain, she was having trouble doing some of the things she needed for work as a chef, like using a knife and opening bottles.

She worked with Dr. Hancock to improve her range of motion and Dr. Tricia to build back her functional strength. Now she's doing all of those things without pain! 👏

It's easy to take our hands for granted until something hurts. Even an injury that seems small can have a pretty big impact on your everyday life.

Way to go Delores!

When the personal trainer says, “Let’s do a fun challenge,” you already know it's about to get competitive. 😂

Deemah put Charlie and Tricia to the test with the yoga ball pike and, let's just say, there were some questionable techniques and plenty of encouragement along the way. 💪

I was out on the trails in the fog yesterday morning and found myself thinking about Jennifer Gardner.

I think about her often when I’m out there. I probably always will.

Jennifer was an amazing athlete. She was my patient, an athlete I had the privilege to coach, and most importantly, an amazing friend — to me and to so many others.

She left this world way too early. But somehow she also managed to pack more life into her years than most of us could hope to fit into 100.

One of my favorite lines from All the Light We Cannot See:

“Open your eyes and see what you can with them before they close forever.”

We are so lucky to get to do this stuff. To run. To ride. To hike. To hurt. To get up early and head out into the fog. Even to struggle through the hard days.

It’s easy to forget what a privilege that is.

Today I’m grateful for another day on the trails. And I’m especially grateful that Jennifer was part of my life.

Don’t take the days for granted.

Patient shoutout to Liz! 👏❤️

Liz is a super mom of two and a longtime runner who has tackled everything from 5Ks to marathons. Over the years, she’s dealt with a few different running injuries, often tied back to a lack of strength.

A few months ago, she started working with Deemah, and the progress has been awesome. She’s gotten SO much stronger, added muscle, and has been able to keep running without injury.

She’s now box jumping like a champ, deadlifting her body weight, and somehow doing it all with a huge smile on her face! 💪

Now she’s putting that strength to work as she trains for her next goal, an 8K!!

So proud of you, Liz! Keep it up! 👏

The Richmond Marathon is coming up quick! Most runners just run.Few actually practice running.

Here are 4 gait drills I use to improve efficiency:
1️⃣ A SkipThink carbon fiber leg.Firm. Stiff. Mid foot strike.Train elastic energy return.

2️⃣ B SkipProgression of the A skip.Strike on the way back down.Same carbon fiber feel.

3️⃣ Butt FlickOften done wrong.Heel up. Toe up.Knee stays under the hip.First move off the ground is heel up toe up so the lower leg gets parallel to the ground. That sets up better thigh drive and better efficiency.

4️⃣ Step Over DrillPut it all together.Clean motor control.Efficient mechanics.

Do 5 minutes of drills1 to 2 runs per week.

Small investment.Big return.

Move better.Run faster with less effort.

This review is worth a second to read. 👏

Justin put into words exactly what we hope every patient experiences at Active. From helping him through an injury just three weeks before his Ironman 70.3 to checking in outside of office hours and encouraging him along the way, Dr. Tricia went above and beyond to help him get across that finish line.

It's not just about the treatment. It's about having someone in your corner who knows what you're working toward and genuinely cares about getting you there.

Thank you for trusting us, Justin!
