We often enter difficult conversations already preparing our response.
We listen for what we disagree with. We gather evidence. We prepare our defense.
Curiosity asks something different of us.
It asks us to leave a little room for the possibility that there is something we don't yet understand.
Try one sentence:
“Help me understand what makes you see it that way.”
You don't have to agree with the answer.
But what you understand next may change the conversation.
And sometimes, that changes everything.
