Mother’s Day can hold so many emotions. 🌿

For some, it’s joy and gratitude.
For others, it’s exhaustion, overwhelm, grief, anxiety, identity shifts, loneliness, or trying to hold everyone together while quietly struggling themselves.

Postpartum mental health is not just about the weeks after birth. It can impact mothers long after the casseroles stop coming and the world assumes you’re “back to normal.”

At Unbound Counseling, we want moms to know:
you deserve support before burnout, not just after it.

We are currently accepting clients with our PSI-certified Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) therapist, specially trained in supporting mothers through postpartum challenges, anxiety, identity transitions, overwhelm, and the emotional weight that can come with motherhood.

You do not have to navigate it alone. 🤍

This Mother’s Day, we hope mothers remember:
taking care of yourself is not taking away from your family.
It is part of caring for them, too.

You can let it matter
without letting it stay.

You can acknowledge:
“That hurt me.”
“That affected me.”
“That mattered.”
Without letting it keep taking from you.

Not because it was small
but because you’re allowed to protect your energy now.

There’s a quiet kind of permission here:
to stop carrying something
just to prove that it mattered.

To stop holding onto it
just in case someone finally understands.

To stop revisiting it
hoping it will resolve differently.

Some things don’t leave because they were explained.

Some things begin to loosen
when you decide you don’t have to hold them anymore.

You’re allowed to set something down
even if it mattered deeply.

Surrender isn’t what you think it is.

It’s not giving up.
It’s not pretending it didn’t hurt.
It’s not agreeing with what harmed you.
It’s something quieter than that.

It’s the moment you notice
how tired you are from holding everything so tightly…
and allow your grip to soften, just a little.

Surrender can look like:
not sending the message
not replaying it again tonight
not trying to force an answer that isn’t coming

It doesn’t mean you stop feeling.

It means you stop fighting yourself
for having feelings.

For people who feel deeply, this can feel unfamiliar—
even a little scary.

But often, this is where a different kind of steadiness begins.

Not the kind that pushes harder,
but the kind that lets you breathe again.

Sometimes surrender is simply:
“I don’t have to carry all of this right now.”

At Unbound Counseling, we love the symbolism of the dandelion.

It grows in hard places, is often misunderstood, sometimes overlooked, but yet deeply resilient.

Maybe that is part of why it feels familiar here in West Virginia, where strength is often quiet and people often carry more than they put into words.

This season, we feel especially grateful to be invited into spaces like Kickin it for Katy that represent places where stories are honored, people come together, and support is shared in meaningful ways.

There is something powerful about simply showing up, being present, and making room for care.

Like the dandelion, what is quiet can still be rooted in love.

Something I’ve been sitting with lately…

Sometimes stillness isn’t what we expected.
It’s not always clarity.
It’s not always answers.
It’s not always closure.

Sometimes stillness is just the moment
you stop letting something unfinished pull you under.
Not because it didn’t matter,
but because it doesn’t get to keep taking from you.

There’s a quiet shift that happens
when you stop trying to force resolution.

Not everything settles because it was explained.
Some things settle simply
because you stopped chasing them.

Sometimes peace begins
when you loosen your grip, just a little.

If you’ve been replaying something,
trying to make it land differently…
this is for you.

You don’t always close a loop
by explaining more.

Sometimes the loop closes
each time you choose not to reopen it.

And that’s hard.

Because part of you still wants
to be understood,
to be known correctly,
to be asked what really happened.

To have it land the way it felt.
But not every situation will give you that.

And healing doesn’t always come
from being understood.

Sometimes it comes from being able to say:
“I know what was true for me.”
“And I don’t need to keep proving it.”

Some things begin to settle
when you stop reopening them.
