Infantile hemangiomas can appear just weeks after birth and may grow rapidly during the first few months of life—sometimes doubling or even tripling in size—before gradually entering a phase called involution, when they begin to shrink and fade.

Dr. Gregory Levitin, M.D., is Director of the Vascular Birthmark Center with offices in New York and Los Angeles. Dr. Levitin was first drawn to the specialty of vascular birthmarks after one of his twin daughters was diagnosed with a large hemangioma that required medical and laser therapy, and ultimately surgical treatment.
