"I am a member of the Health Justice Initiativeโ€™s Associate Board, where I serve as the secretary.

After working on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic, I saw firsthand how disparities in healthcare in New York City impacted care and I knew I wanted to be a part of the solution.

Health Justice Initiativeโ€™s mission of providing free legal assistance to those who have experienced discrimination, language barriers, medical debt, lack access to insurance or other resources relating to medical care resonates with me deeply, and I am thrilled to serve on the Associate Board. โ€

Hereโ€™s the second part of our event photos!

What started as a vision became a room full of 100+ people who believe healthcare is a right worth fighting for. Our ๐ˆ๐ง๐š๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ซ๐š๐ฅ ๐’๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐๐ž๐ง๐ž๐Ÿ๐ข๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐ฎ๐ง๐œ๐ก was everything we hoped for, and more.

Thank you to every guest, sponsor, donor, volunteer, and supporter who made this possible. You showed up, you gave generously, and you reminded us why this work matters.

Health Justice Initiative raised approximately $๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“๐ŸŽ,๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ. Every contribution goes directly to the mother buried under a wrongful medical bill, the child waiting on a denied insurance claim, the senior choosing between medication and meals, and every person who has ever felt invisible inside the system that was supposed to protect them. You made this possible.

This is just the beginning. And we are so glad you are part of it.

"As an Associate Board Member of HJI, I chair the Events & Engagement Subcommittee, leading event planning and outreach, participate in the planning group for our inaugural spring benefit, and am part of the financial working group. I also sit on the Health Council, where as a nurse I have the opportunity to contribute to a new needs assessment and support culturally responsive service delivery, outreach, and advocacy.

Being part of HJI matters to me because my career has centered on advancing health equity through community outreach, culturally responsive care, and systems-level change. Iโ€™m proud to help HJI promote healthcare equity by empowering communities, providing legal-medical support, and advocating for fair policies."

Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes, and up to 60% of these deaths are preventable. These are not just statistics. They are mothers, daughters, sisters, and partners lost to a system that continues to fail them.

At ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐ˆ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž (๐‡๐‰๐ˆ), we believe maternal health is a matter of justice. This week and beyond, we stand with the advocates, doulas, midwives, and community organizations fighting for birth equity, and with every Black mother who has had to fight to be heard in her own care.

Because every mother deserves safe, dignified, equitable care. No exceptions.
