𝐔𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝟗𝟎𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐍𝐘𝐂 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 as sweeping changes to Medicaid take effect January 1, according to the NYC Health Department.
For many of our neighbors, navigating shifting eligibility rules, complicated paperwork, and critical deadlines could mean the difference between keeping their healthcare coverage and losing it.
At Health Justice Initiative, we're working to make sure no one has to navigate these challenges alone.
So far in 2026, we've provided pro bono legal counsel to more than 30 New Yorkers facing barriers to care, helped 50 individuals complete healthcare proxies, and hosted 10 community events in Brownsville and East New York.
