Another Mental Health America of Licking County spotlight is on our Connecting the Dots (CTD) program. Shari does an incredible job running this program and has been incredibly successful working with many individuals in Licking County.

Read a few of our participants’ feedback:

*Going through this class has made me look at my trauma through a different lens. I was able to forgive my father for past trauma. I’ve also learned the quickest way through any problem is straight through the storm.*

*It helped me understand how much childhood trauma affects us as adults. I gained a different way of thinking or a mindfulness for it. Also being given the tools to express how I feel through art, it’s a stress reliever and also helps you understand yourself better. I think it’s important to practice all the activities we did in class not only for healing, but to do art activities on our own. I think self-reflection is a very important tool to use for ourselves and I think that alone will help me so much in the future. Thank you so much.*

*I never really understood much about just how badly I stuff my trauma deep down and Connecting the Dots has shown me a better way with art journaling. It is a better way to release it in a productive way than using drugs to cover it.*

*For myself Connecting the Dots made me realize that my childhood is more deeply ingrained in my thinking processes and my addiction than I previously believed. I learned about ACES and that taught me that my normal childhood wasn’t as normal as I thought. I learned that my Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) have created unimagined trauma in my life that I now realize must be processed everyday to better understand how my emotional and mental trauma affects my negative thinking and how that produces undesired decision making. The knowledge I have gained in CTD has given me valuable insight into an area of my life that until recently was clouded. And that impacted my judgement. I feel that what I have learned gives me clarity and has added to the foundation of my recovery going forward. My life is better for having made the mistakes that led me here, and now I have better knowledge of future decisions.*

Thank you, Shari! For all your hard work and commitment to making Connect the Dots such a valuable resource and support for anyone who can benefit from what it provides. You are such a valuable staff member of MHALC.
