With storm season upon us āļøšŖļø, I know this can be an especially anxious time for many peopleāespecially those who fear storms or tornadoes.
A few reminders to help you stay grounded:
š± Stay informed, but set limits. Check the weather enough to be prepared, but avoid constant monitoringāit can increase anxiety.
š§° Prepare ahead of time. Know where you would go if needed and have essentials ready.
š” When the weather is calm, continue your normal routine as much as possible. This helps signal safety to your brain.
š Try not to fixate on āwhat ifā thoughts. Notice them, then gently redirect your focus.
š§ Use distraction when neededāTV, music, reading, talking with someone.
š§āāļø Practice calming strategies like slow breathing or grounding exercises.
š¤ Remind yourself: āI am prepared. I will handle what comes if and when it happens.ā
You can take storms seriously without letting them take over your thoughts. Stay safe and take care of yourselves.
