"I’ve worked across rural communities where healthcare access isn’t a given," said Jeremy Cannon, RN of Kalkaska Memorial Health Center in an article shared during Community Health Improvement Week. "Where my neighbors might delay or skip that care entirely — not because they want to, but because systemic barriers gave them no other choice. Seeing this reality first-hand has shaped my purpose and what I believe healthcare must be: accessible, compassionate and rooted in a commitment to whole-person care."

This Day, we're grateful for the voices across who are working alongside our teams to advocate for workplace safety. Earlier this week, Carrie Mull (Trinity Health MI) a registered nurse of over 30 years provided testimony on legislation aimed at addressing workplace violence in healthcare settings.

Violence against healthcare workers is unacceptable. We must continue to speak out and ensure protections are in place for those who care for us when we need it most ➡️ https://bit.ly/2JxkgrK

Yesterday, Mackinac Straits Health System proudly hosted Michigan Health & Hospital Association Keystone Center Safe Table Event, focused on medication safety and preventing errors in rural hospitals.

Hospital Pharmacist, John Wininger, served as the guest speaker, leading valuable discussions and training centered on improving patient safety and strengthening best practices in rural healthcare settings. Drawing from his own experience living and working on Mackinac Island, John shared unique insights into the challenges and importance of delivering safe, effective care in rural communities.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this important educational event and for your continued commitment to high-quality patient care.

"Hospitals don’t set prices — but do carry responsibility. We are part of the solution, and we take that seriously. Every day we look for ways to deliver better care, faster and more efficiently."

In a recent op-ed, Bill Manns, our board chair and president and CEO of Bronson Healthcare, reflects on the realities of rising healthcare costs. Don't miss it in Crain's Detroit Business ⬇️

Strong economies require a strong healthcare delivery system. If we want Michigan to remain competitive and if we want families to get care when and where they need it, we need policies grounded in reality, not rhetoric.

Hospitals are there in life’s most critical moments, supporting people at all walks of life and expanding access to care beyond the bedside. For children and families experiencing behavioral health crises, timely care can make a lifesaving difference.

To expand access to specialized mental health services for children and adolescents, the teams at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services recently opened a first-of-its-kind Pediatric Psychiatric Urgent Care Center. Learn more ➡️ https://bit.ly/4dCTPNk
