Marcia's Purse Scholarship
I am thrilled to announce the opening of MARCIA'S PURSE SCHOLARSHIP!
Marcia was my older cousin. I come from a big Irish family and Marcia stood out as having one of the hugest hearts. Marcia never had a lot of money and she had two boys to raise. After she passed away people started showing up to honor her and to show gratitude. Apparently, she had been consistently at people's homes, the street corners where those without their own homes frequented, and multiple other places with her little purse to give what would help. Her family didn't know the kindness she was showing the world. Her one son said that he had never understood why she was working so hard because they were basically,"making it". Afterwards, it made sense, she was supporting many other people from her purse. When she passed away I tried to send one of her sons a few bucks. My mom,Betsy, had a way of slipping a $10 or $20 into somebody's hands when they were having a hard time. Betsy, never had much money to share either but she knew even a little helps to ease a stressful time. I tried to offer him something to take the burden of the financial challenge that comes with a loss. Marcia's son said "No, We are doing OK. Find someone else to share it with who needs it so much more." It was that moment that the, "Marcia's Purse Scholarship", was created. I pledge to offer a full scholarship for each of my classes and trainings forever. I'm proud to say that my September 25,26,and 27 Doula Training will offer the first Marcia's Purse Scholarship.
