🍽️ Celebrating National Food Service Workers Week!
This week, Phoenix Indian Medical Center is proud to recognize the dedicated professionals on our Nutrition Services team!

Every day, they prepare nutritious meals tailored to the dietary and health needs of our patients while also serving staff, visitors, and members of our community. Behind the scenes, they manage countless details to ensure meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and with care.

Their hard work, teamwork, and dedication make them a key ingredient in the care we provide at PIMC.

Please join us in thanking our Nutrition Services team for everything they do for our patients and the PIMC community! 💙

A new report in CDC’s MMWR found that from 2020 through 2024, unsafe sleep practices were present in at least 3 in 4 sudden unexpected infant deaths (SUID) based on data from the SUID and Sudden Death in the Young Case Registry. Safe sleep practices can help reduce SUID risk. Always place babies to sleep on their backs, in a non-shared crib or bassinet, with no soft or loose bedding. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/75/wr/mm7535a1.htm

Start simple. Start with one.

Eating a variety of colorful vegetables and fruits is one of the simplest nutrition upgrades you can make. Aim for a mix of vegetables and fruit at meals. Fresh, frozen, or canned all count! Look for frozen and canned vegetables with no or low sodium. Frozen, dried, or canned fruits with no or very limited added sugars are also good options.
Be sure to wash your hands before and after produce preparation. Thoroughly rinse your produce under running water before eating, even produce labeled as pre-washed.
Start with one small change: add a vegetable or piece of fruit to your next meal.

Community Health Representatives (CHRs) connect people to the care, services, and support they need. CHRs work within American Indian and Alaska Native communities. They share health information, help people navigate services, and explain next steps.

CHRs also provide follow-up and ongoing support. Trusted relationships and local knowledge help CHRs make care easier to reach, better coordinated, and more connected.

Read our FAQs to learn more about CHRs and the many roles they play: https://www.ihs.gov/chr/faqs

Healthy growth looks different for every child, and families don’t have to navigate questions about nutrition and healthy growth alone.

Regular visits with your child’s pediatrician are an opportunity to talk about growth, nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and other healthy habits. A pediatric dietitian can also provide personalized nutrition guidance that supports your child and family.

PIMC’s pediatric providers and pediatric dietitian are available to support your family. Talk with your child’s health care team about healthy growth and the resources available to you. To schedule an appointment for your child’s annual checkup, please call 602-263-1507. To schedule with our pediatric dietitian, call 602-581-6612.
