Want to keep learning with me? 🌿

One of my favorite pieces of feedback from this presentation was:
“Love this needed topic! I want a deeper knowledge of lactation herbs.”

YES. There is so much more to explore.
My professional education spans herbal care in lactation, individualized galactagogue use, induced lactation, infant feeding and oral function, complex case-based clinical reasoning, tongue-tie care, prenatal assessment, low milk production, infant digestive concerns, and more.

Whether I’m teaching a conference session, a webinar, a clinical intensive, or a customized training, my goal is the same:
Take complex clinical information and make it understandable, thoughtful, and actually usable with families.

1. Function matters more than frenulum appearance alone.
2. “Natural” does not automatically mean safe.
3. Differential diagnosis and individualized care lead to better support.

These are some of the principles that shape my teaching and clinical approach. In Palm Springs, we’ll take a thoughtful look at infant oral function and herbal lactation care with an emphasis on clinical reasoning, nuance, and practical application.

One theme kept appearing in the feedback from my recent herbal presentation:
“I’m nervous talking about herbs with families.”

And then, after the presentation:
“I feel more comfortable talking about herbs.”
“I have a better idea how to read labels.”
“I know where to find resources.”
“I can have better discussions with my patients.”

THIS is the work I care about. 🌿

Herbal care during lactation doesn’t need to be approached as either “herbs are natural, so they’re safe” or “I don’t know enough, so I won’t discuss them.”

There is a much more thoughtful space in between—one that includes evidence, safety, dosing, contraindications, interactions, product quality, family goals, scope, and shared decision-making.
We don’t need clinicians to memorize every herb.
We need clinicians who know how to think through the question.

Palm Springs colleagues — registration is open for a full day of thoughtful, practical clinical education.

This workshop brings together two areas of care that require us to look beyond quick answers: infant oral function and evidence-informed herbal support during lactation. We’ll spend the day exploring assessment, feeding function, ankyloglossia, differential diagnosis, herbal safety, clinical resources, herb-drug interactions, and real-world care planning. My goal is always to help clinicians understand the why behind what they are seeing so recommendations feel more individualized, collaborative, and useful for families.

Australia, I’m looking forward to learning and thinking through complex feeding cases with you in 2027!

I’ll teach From Assessment to Action, a one-day clinical reasoning workshop, in Warrnambool (February 25), Brisbane (March 3), and Sydney (March 5). We’ll work through real-world lactation and infant feeding challenges and explore how to turn assessment into an individualized care plan.

I’ll also speak at Turning the Tide for Birth and Breastfeeding in Warrnambool on February 26–27, alongside a wonderful lineup of colleagues.

3,361 evaluations. And the part I care about most? What clinicians felt able to do afterward.

97.9% were satisfied with the learning experience.
96.8% said their professional knowledge increased.
94.9% said they gained new skills or concepts they could use in practice.
And approximately 99% said the learning objectives were met.

Numbers are lovely—but comments like this mean even more:
“I believe that 99% of what Melissa presented is applicable to use in practice.”

That is always my goal. Not simply more information. More useful information. Better questions. Better clinical reasoning. More confidence having nuanced conversations with families.

Continuing education should change more than what we know. Ideally, it changes how we walk into the next room.

New Hampshire colleagues - registration is open for a full day of integrative clinical education in Keene.

We will begin with evidence-informed herbal care across the perinatal and lactation continuum, including safety, clinical resources, lactation concerns, perinatal mood, and case application. In the afternoon, we will turn to infant oral function, with a mindful approach to assessment, ankyloglossia, functional feeding support, and post-frenectomy care.

This in-person workshop is designed for clinicians who want practical information they can bring directly into their work with families.
