💙 Meet the Team: Corey Hicks!
For Corey, caring for patients is about more than treatment. It’s about compassion, empathy and being there for people when they need it most.
When asked what he loves most about serving Scioto County, Corey shared:
“Scioto County isn't some arbitrary location. It is your grocer, your mechanic, your carpenter, your neighbor, your pastor, your city worker, your law enforcement.”
He went on to explain why serving this community means so much to him: “Because Scioto County is us. Community is where my children are, my family, my friends.”
One patient experience especially shaped his perspective on nursing. After spending time with a patient during her final hours, Corey was reminded that sometimes care means more than finding another treatment. As he shared, “Sometimes, it is about being present when there is nothing left to fix, listening when there is nothing left to say, and helping a patient face the end of life with dignity.”
Outside of patient care, Corey enjoys coffee and camaraderie, catching up on Star Talk and grabbing street tacos from Toro Loco. 🌮
And here's a fun fact you might not expect: Corey was once the commander of a SWAT team!
