I'm not sure when it started, but apparently doing a cartwheel on the beach in Costa Rica has become an annual tradition. And I have every intention of keeping it going.
My cartwheel isn't particularly impressive, but it makes me happy. It makes me laugh and for about three seconds, I feel like I'm eight years old again.
One of the things I've been thinking about as I get older is how easily we start putting limits on ourselves. We decide we're too old for certain things, too cautious to try something new, or that some activities are better left to younger people.
I don't buy it.
I'm 58. My body is changing, and I know there are things I can't do quite the way I used to. But there are also things I can do now that I couldn't do 20 years ago. And plenty of things I haven't even tried yet!
I have no interest in pretending I'm younger than I am. I want to enjoy being the age I am, in the body I have, and keep finding out what it's capable of.
I want to dance, play, explore, make a fool of myself occasionally, and keep surprising myself.
𝗚𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. 𝗚𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹.
And as long as my body is willing, there will be another cartwheel on the beach.
