Today, our Friendship Independent Living residents volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House Southwest Virginia, delivering the donations collected throughout the month of May.

We donated needed items and collected pop tabs. We helped sort the donated pop tabs, separating aluminum from other metals to prepare them for recycling efforts that benefit the Ronald McDonald House.

We are so proud of the generosity, teamwork, and community spirit our residents continue to show. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make a difference for families in need!

Friendship Fest is in full swing this week. Today, we had a celebration at Friendship North. You took part in a crafts show, bake sale and even a bean bag toss. There was also lots of yummy food and music. We had a lot of fun overall and the good thing is all of the money raised is going back towards Friendship. Make sure to join us all week for Friendship Fest. Every purchase and activity helps support our mission to support our residents and staff in need, and it’s a great way to celebrate our 60th anniversary.

Tomorrow at Richfield we have a cook out and dunking booth from 11:30 to 1:00. So, come on out.

Friendship Fest continued today with a Chili Cookoff at Friendship Health & Rehab South. Our co-workers worked in the kitchen and made some scrumptious chilis for us to try and see which one would take home the grand prize. There were lots of entries, but only one came out victorious.

Make sure to check out all of our Friendship Fest activities, every purchase and activity helps support our mission to support our residents and staff in need, and it’s a great way to celebrate our 60th anniversary. Tomorrow on North's campus from 11 am - 1 pm, we are hosting a BBQ Lunch, Craft and Bake Sale, and Beach Blanket Bullseye.

We had a fun and informative Thursday today! This morning, we had our Tam Talk, where Tam gives us some advice to help with our health. Today, she talked about brain health. Did you know that snacks like berries, working out, socializing and learning something new every day can help with your brain health? Doing those things can also prolong dementia or Alzheimer’s.

Then in the afternoon, things got a little crazy (but in a good way) with our Chef Demo! Chef Cindy from the Bistro came over and showed us and shared with us some delicious foods like green goodness dressing and avocado hummus.

Come out next time! Like we learned this morning in Tam Talk, socializing is good for your brain health.

We had a little treat today. Author Tammy Angell joined us for a special storytelling and book signing this afternoon of her book “In Samson’s Words.” A story about her dog’s journey in heaven. It was a great time to get together, learn more about her, and hear the wonderful story she wrote.

Last night, we cheered on the Salem RidgeYaks ! It was a spectacular night and a great chance to spend time with one another while cheering on one of our favorite baseball teams. Looking for something new to do? Come join us for painting. Once a month, we paint with one of our volunteers, Pat, and today was amazing. This is just one of the many activities you can do here at Friendship Independent Living. Remember, socializing can help with your mental and physical health, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

This Memorial Day, Friendship Retirement is pausing to remember the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Thank you for all you have done. We would also like to say a huge thank you to our residents, staff and families who served, or are currently serving. It’s thanks to you that we have our freedom. Today we remember, reflect and say thank you to the brave men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
