We’re still up in the air after last week’s incredible adventure with Dream Flights! ✈️

Dream Flights, a nonprofit organization, gave 9 of our Friendship Retirement veterans the chance to take to the skies in a restored WWII Stearman biplane.

It was truly a dream come true — a once-in-a-lifetime experience we’ll never forget!

Thank you, Dream Flights and the team members from Sports Clips Haircuts of Blacksburg & Christiansburg who helped create this incredible experience.

We brought a little bit of Hawaii here today with a hula performance that brought lots of smiles to our faces! Who needs a plane ticket? And even better we got to spend time together. Studies show being social are good for healthy aging.

Eight veterans from Friendship Retirement Community in Roanoke were honored with biplane rides by Dream Flights at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport.

We had the privilege of honoring nine Friendship Retirement veterans today as Dream Flights brought a once-in-a-lifetime experience to Roanoke — free flights in a restored World War II Stearman biplane ✈️

Surrounded by family and friends cheering them on, our veterans took to the skies and shared the stories that shaped their lives.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice. And thank you to Dream Flights and Sport Clips Haircuts of Blacksburg for making this unforgettable day possible!

It was a privilege to celebrate three remarkable members of our community whose dedication, service and achievements have made a lasting impact on the region.
🌟 Richard Chubb — A teacher, coach, guidance counselor and elementary school principal who dedicated his career to helping students and strengthening his community.
🌟 Ted Edlich — A longtime leader of Total Action for Progress (TAP) who spent four decades championing education, employment, housing and business development programs that have helped thousands of people across our region.
🌟 Kris Tilley-Lubbs — A former Virginia Tech professor and Roanoke County Spanish teacher and department head, as well as the founder of Casa Latina, author and advocate.
We are grateful for the opportunity to honor their lifetime of achievement, service and leadership. Congratulations to our 2026 honorees! 🎉

🎨 We put our creativity to work today!
We had fun during our watercolor painting activity. We love spending time with friends, sharing laughs and enjoying each other’s company. 💙
But the best part is staying active and connected are important parts of healthy aging!
