We’re still up in the air after last week’s incredible adventure with Dream Flights! ✈️

Dream Flights, a nonprofit organization, gave 9 of our Friendship Retirement veterans the chance to take to the skies in a restored WWII Stearman biplane.

It was truly a dream come true — a once-in-a-lifetime experience we’ll never forget!

Thank you, Dream Flights and the team members from Sports Clips Haircuts of Blacksburg & Christiansburg who helped create this incredible experience.

Dream Flights honored nine Friendship Retirement veterans with an unforgettable flight in a restored WWII biplane — a special experience that brought back memories, sparked new ones and gave our community a chance to celebrate their service.

Eight veterans from Friendship Retirement Community in Roanoke were honored with biplane rides by Dream Flights at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport.

What a special day! Nine of our Friendship veterans were able to take to the sky to fulfill their long time dream of flying.

A heartwarming moment occurred when the pilots came to a resident, who did not make the 8 roster cutoff, but came to support other residents, was told by the pilots near the end of the day they would make an exception, stay late, and take him up. He was in tears with gratitude.

Thank you so much to Dream Flights for making our veterans dreams come true!

It was a privilege to celebrate three remarkable members of our community whose dedication, service and achievements have made a lasting impact on the region.
🌟 Richard Chubb — A teacher, coach, guidance counselor and elementary school principal who dedicated his career to helping students and strengthening his community.
🌟 Ted Edlich — A longtime leader of Total Action for Progress (TAP) who spent four decades championing education, employment, housing and business development programs that have helped thousands of people across our region.
🌟 Kris Tilley-Lubbs — A former Virginia Tech professor and Roanoke County Spanish teacher and department head, as well as the founder of Casa Latina, author and advocate.
We are grateful for the opportunity to honor their lifetime of achievement, service and leadership. Congratulations to our 2026 honorees! 🎉

There’s no better way to spend an afternoon than by giving back!

Members of the “Crafting for Good Club” at Friendship Richfield Living lent a helping hand last month giving out twiddle muffs that they made from scratch to residents in Friendship South’s memory care. Twiddle muffs are sensory therapy tools designed keep your hands warm and give you something to fiddle with, especially if you have Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. It was an amazing opportunity and one we’d love to do again.
