Today is National Stop the Bleed Day — a reminder that the actions taken in the first few minutes after a traumatic injury can save a life.

At the Kessler Trauma Center, we are committed to empowering our community with the knowledge and confidence to respond in an emergency. Severe bleeding can become life-threatening in minutes, but with the right training, anyone can help before first responders arrive.

We encourage everyone to learn the basics of bleeding control, including:
🩸 Applying direct pressure
🩸 Packing a wound
🩸 Proper tourniquet use

Together, we can build a safer, more prepared community.

Honored to support Mercy Flight Central at their Education Conference on May 1st!

A special congratulations to Dr. Vella for delivering an outstanding keynote presentation, “Blood, Sweat and the Evolution of EMS: Paving the Way for Whole Blood.” His insights highlighted the critical advancements shaping the future of emergency medical care.

We were also proud to have Dr. Riera present “Pediatric Emergency Readiness: ED and EMS Preparedness,” emphasizing the importance of ensuring our systems are equipped to care for our youngest patients in critical moments.

Grateful to be part of a community dedicated to education, innovation, and excellence in EMS. 🚁

We’re proud to highlight our Trauma Nurse Educator, Becky, for presenting her poster, “From Scene to System: Improving MCI Outcomes Through Efficient Triage and Unified Response” in Austin, TX at TraumaCon 2026! ☀️🌵

This work showcases ongoing collaboration within our trauma region to strengthen mass casualty incident (MCI) preparedness. The poster highlights implementation of the Disasters In Seconds triage training kit and the integration of the SALT triage algorithm to promote rapid assessment, consistent decision-making, and a unified response across disciplines. 🚑🏥🚒

Through hands-on training and standardized triage methods, these initiatives help improve coordination — ultimately enhancing patient outcomes when seconds matter most.

Great work, Becky! 💫

We’re proud to support the next generation of leaders making a difference in their communities!

Aquinas Institute senior Molly Krotz recently partnered with our trauma program to bring life-saving education to faculty and staff through her capstone project. Together, we delivered Stop the Bleed training to her school.

Not only did Molly facilitate and teach the course, she went a step further by securing funding to equip every classroom with Stop the Bleed kits. Thanks to a generous donation from her grandmother, this effort will have a lasting impact on the safety and preparedness of the entire Aquinas community.

It’s inspiring to see students like Molly take initiative to create safer schools and stronger communities. Great work, Molly—we’re honored to be part of your project!
