June Commitment

We are upon the season of celebrating weddings, promotions, and graduations. This is the season of hope for a new journey, new beginnings and growth. This is the culmination of years of planning, hard work, preparation, humble moments and pride, and ultimately, commitment to making it all happen. It is this dedication and sense of duty to follow through, to engage, to create a better future, and to support a shared cause that represents our Crestwood value of Commitment.

At Crestwood, commitment means that follow through is basic. When we commit to a stakeholder such as a university, agency or county, a person served or an employee, we make sure we fulfill that commitment. We hold an uncompromising commitment to quality of services and psychosocial recovery principles. This is evidenced by our CARF Accreditation, the growth of our services, our surveys and in the work our staff does every day by providing the most engaging and compassionate services. Crestwood commits to providing a full spectrum of services to people of all ages with significant behavioral health challenges, in a socially responsible manner and at the highest level of responsiveness to each community we serve.

For more than 58 years, Crestwood’s commitment to partnerships has been based on trust and integrity, which have been the key ingredients to healing, recovery, wellness, and resilience. Our path has taken many turns, and our journey has required commitment to our shared purpose, our mission and the resilience that includes our shared humanity that defines us.

Today, Crestwood’s commitment is demonstrated by our staff in so many ways such as showing up to work ready to take on the day-to-day challenges, supporting some of the most fragile and disenfranchised persons served. It is coming together to support staffing challenges on long weekends. It is the dedication of completing required education in our Crestwood Learning Center (CLC). The commitment of our Crestwood staff is palpable and the backbone of our organization. Thank you all for showing up and serving with enthusiasm, compassion and flexibility every day!

As we walk through early summer, with longer days and warmer evenings, remember to appreciate and acknowledge our commitment to each other, to our communities and to those we serve every day.

What's Growing On in Idylwood?

SJSU MSW intern, Suki Kuang, is working on a project with the activities and social services directors at Idylwood Care Center involving a gardening group and outdoor gardens. They have been planting various herbs from seeds and vegetable plants in outdoor planter boxes. Suki has created a group curriculum for including residents in planting, watering, and maintaining the herbs and vegetables.

The residents that have been involved all seem to have prior experience in gardening and enjoy sharing their knowledge, which has been quite helpful. There are a lot of therapeutic benefits to the group which are based on evidence-based practices and research. The garden group has been a big hit so far! Usually, the group includes about 5 or 6 very enthusiastic and interactive residents. Activities and social service designees provide extra assistance for residents that need it to attend the group.

They have begun to take some pictures of the progress of the garden. This project has been in the works for some time now, long before Suki came on board at Idylwood. Per Joanna Estrada, Clinical Director, the garden project wouldn't have been possible at this time without Suki.

"In our garden, we’re not just growing flowers—we’re nurturing community, dignity, and a sense of belonging. Tending the garden together gives our residents something to look forward to, something to care for, and a shared space where everyone can thrive." – Suki Kuang

Spotlight on Alba Jimenez - 30 Years of Service

This May, Alba Jimenez celebrates 30 years of working for Crestwood! Alba began her career with Crestwood Center San Jose in 1996. She heard about Crestwood from her sister and brother-in-law who worked for Crestwood and encouraged her to apply. Alba was hired as a Laundry Aide first and took on the Housekeeper role in 2010. She was a faithful Crestwood employee working in San Jose for 26 years until her family relocated to the Central Valley in 2022. Crestwood values family and in July of 2022, Alba joined the Crestwood Manor Stockton family, bringing with her many years of experience and skills in housekeeping services! Those were some challenging years to be a housekeeper with a pandemic, and Alba rose to the occasion.

Alba likes to do her job well and serve the residents the best she can. She enjoys spending time with her family, going shopping, going to casinos, and listening to music. She is thankful to Administrator Mary Carrick and her San Jose supervisors who worked together giving her the opportunity to transfer to Stockton!

Alba’s coworkers say, “Alba is always ready to help,” and “Alba is very detail oriented in her work, always doing a great job!” Her supervisors agree, “Alba is dependable and a great member of the Team.”

The persons served say, “Alba is a very nice person, always with a ready smile.” They remark, “Alba always makes our rooms smell great!”

Our Crestwood Manor Stockton family appreciates and celebrates our coworker Alba on these 30 wonderful years!

An Inspiring Mural at Idylwood Care Center!

Van Svoboda visited Idylwood Care Center in the month of March to collaborate with staff to create the perfect mural to display at our campus. The response from the staff was great and the results were even greater. Thank you, Van, see you for the next one.

The mural says:
We Rise By Lifting Others;
Be Stronger Than Your Excuse;
Make Each Day Your Masterpiece;
and It's a Good Day To Be Happy My Friend!

Easter Eggstravaganza at Ponderosa Healing House!

Here at Ponderosa Healing House, we aim to provide entertaining, interactive, and enjoyable events to appreciate the holidays. Easter was one of those special occasions where we hosted an Easter Eggstravaganza! The festivities included an Egg Scavenger Hunt and a special appearance from our Administrator, Bliss Ezike, in a bunny costume, who assisted our person served in finding the eggs, handing out candies, and taking pictures with the people we serve at our photobooth. Persons served received a print of their photo so they can reminisce about the memorable moment! Seeing the spark of joy our extra efforts bring to persons served on special days makes all the efforts feel completely worthwhile!

Crestwood San Diego Honors Women's History Month and International Women's Day!

On April 2, Crestwood San Diego hosted a special event in honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. All departments came together to prepare a beautiful celebration. The room was filled with draping wisteria, ivy, and a vibrant floral backdrop. Guest speakers included Administrator Robyn Gross playing the role of Susan B. Anthony, Jesenia Rivera as Hildegard of Bingen, Jenaya Johnson as Maya Angelou, Taylor Herron as Marie Curie, Morgan Golightly as Nina Simone, and one of our persons served as Rosa Parks. Speakers got into character with costumes and shared the stories of these women’s triumphs, perseverance, advocacy, and strength.

Along with our special guest speakers, there was a beautiful performance by the Crestwood San Diego Choir, led by Choir Director Morgan Golightly. The crowd was full of persons served and staff, who were exuberant, clapping and cheering. The event continued with a tea party including herbal tea selection, warm tea cookies, and cucumber dip with pita – all prepared by the talented Dietary team led by Debra Evans. The Recreation and Program team collaborated to engage participants in crafting bright and bold flower crowns. Each participant left the event with a self-care wellness package and words of hope.

Mental Health Awareness Month!

Happy May! Let’s celebrate May as Mental Health Awareness Month as we have been supporting mental health for so many individuals every day. Crestwood has been serving people with mental health needs for more than 5 decades and the country has been honoring mental health awareness since 1949. The growth in this area is undeniable. We see commercials for psychoactive medications, hear celebrities talk about their mental health issues, and see leaders use their lived experience to lead organizations and countries. We have come a long way! This is thanks in part to organizations such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the California Behavioral Health Association (CBHA), the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (PSA), who are working alongside Crestwood in fighting stigma and celebrating recovery!

We use the month of May to raise awareness, share resources, and support the individuals and communities who need it most. We have our Recovery Education Advocacy and Leadership (REAL) Team Storytelling Zoom each week that features guest contributors sharing their stories of strength, hope and resilience. Through sharing our lived experiences, learning from each other’s experiences, and building strong community connections, we can challenge stigma and create spaces where people are supported, understood, and find healing. We will be sharing our Foundational Tools built on experience and bringing in new tools to share with our leaders and staff at our annual Program Directors/Clinical Directors/Directors of Nursing conference this month! These resources help to enrich the lives of our persons served and staff in our campuses.

Mental Health Awareness Month provides a chance to stand with your community and show that no one struggles alone. NAMI’s 2026 Mental Health Awareness Month theme invites everyone to join NAMI in speaking up against mental health stigma. Our Crestwood campuses and Home Office Team are supporting by sponsoring and participating in NAMIWalks and other events across California, from San Diego to Eureka.

There are many ways we can honor and support Mental Health Awareness Month, it can be as simple as sharing a story that shifts silence into connection and turns connection into healing. Together, we can strengthen communities and create opportunities for empathy, understanding, and meaningful change, not just during the month of May but throughout the year.
